Knowing the panel who will interview and make the recommendation to the board would be a start. Tew was on Devlin saying it has been appointed and will be announced after Friday.

Interestingly he also said all the high performance NZ coaches both at home and overseas are aware of the process. Not that he seems to be a chance but Tew was coy about Gatland and to it sounded as though Gatland may have an out clause of his Lions contract for the top job.

Whoever it is their first objective should be to transform the All Black pack into the most fearsome set of Forwards in World Rugby.

Thereโ€™s probably a middle ground between the Boks and the ABs forward packs - it would probably look something like the English pack.

    My comment was tongue-in-cheek.
The Welsh pack was actually heavier than the Boks. 915kg v 900kg.
I can't swear to it, but I seem to think the AB pack also outweighs us.

What works for us is the mongrel. It's why RG Snyman will have a much longer Bok career than Mostert.
    But that is our DNA.
You have to find what works for you.

EDIT: and to a large degree I think you have. And for a long time. Don't baby-and-bathwater after one loss ๐Ÿ˜‰

Stuff says new coach will be chosen before Christmas. Gatland ruled out due to his Lions commitments

I've looked at the Wikipedia pages for Jamie Joseph and Scott Robertson. Robertson has had the Midas touch but seems inexperienced in comparison to Joseph and he has had the luxury of coaching the best players.

Joseph has some good victories but a lot of failure too.

He is known for his famous victory over the Hurricanes in the final but in many years the Highlanders were shit. I also think his results in the RWC must be kept in perspective. It was a great effort but Japan narrowly beat a shit Irish team and middling Scottish team with home ground advantage.

No idea who would be better.

Razor for mine. An unprecedented record of success getting the best out of good players which is what you have to do as AB coach.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

For many that is the major knock on Razor - every coach in every sport in the world will fail at some stage and would much rather see him do it on another RFU's dime and watch and see how he responds.

Smith, Hansen and Henry were a success from 2004 onwards in large part because of their very public collective failures in the early 2000s.

the ideal coaching team would be JJ, Razor & TB...who cares which is the head coach.

What was Scott McLeods contract? WIl he be collateral damage? Has Fox ever expressed any interest?

Can anyone convince Wayne SMith to come back?

@Tim Eddie Jones - we need an evil mastermind as well as a tough, intelligent and fast team. Coaching is one aspect of the job. Eddie should be wearing a monocle and twirling a moustache!

Rennie might be able to - he did it once before.

Surely Rennie would be in the running under this criteria as he has the above at U20s (3 years winning that comp which everyone didn't give enough credit for until we started losing) and has built decent teams in to champs (Chiefs/Wellington) and below average teams (The Poo) into competitive sides.

So the conclusion from this post is Rennie and Smith back together with Tom Coventry and Razor for the celebratory breakdance.
