I’m wondering how well I’ll take it if it’s the ABs that get sawn off.
We have wine /watching events both days and I’m wondering whether I should actually go or not on Saturday.
Most of those people think I’m a relatively mild mannered bloke....
I'll be furious, but not like I was in 2007. Winning back to back has mellowed me somewhat. I still get nervous but I can enjoy the RWC these days. I'm convinced if we do three in a row, the RWC will be ruined.

yeah I have wondered if this is the best thing for the comp...but I'd prefer we find that us winning has had no detrimental effect on anything than us losing and that having no detrimental effect

I'd rather the RWC be ruined than the other option.

nah fuck that. If we can beat Ireland, England, and Wales/SA in 3 weeks, then it's deserved.

Not ruined for us, ruined for everyone else. There'll be calls to change it: It doesn't mean anything. Proper comps have history where you have to play everyone once etc.
-
@antipodean The ABs don't have to be greedy. One RWC title per continent will do.

In order of not wanting to win are Australia, England, France, South Africa, Ireland, Wales, Japan. I could probably be happy for Japan, Wales or Ireland winning, technically it would still be a kiwi winning the world cup via coaches.
Ireland, Australia, England, Wales, South Africa, France, Japan
Ireland because whinging
Australia because 3x wins and Chieka
England because 3x wins (and a bit of Jones)The other 4 I can live with, SA can have 3x wins, they seem worthy.
Japan not going to win, so of the realistic hopes, I think I'd go for France as my preference

England have only won it once?

Oh yeah, my bad. The re-calc didn't improve their ranking though, I must have some more unconscious bias there...

Going to be controversial here and suggest at least one quarter final will be determined by a card.
There'll be a ref in the middle like a rabbit in the headlights pleading with the TMO and his linesmen to agree with his decision. They will of course be mute.
Thatshardly a controversial thought.
I think many people may expect exactly that.
At least we don't get Skeeny.

How could you change it?
A full round-robin? Suits us.
A world league of nations? Tried that. Didn't fly.

cracking set of Quarters coming up. The only result that would really surprise would be Japan beating the Boks, all other results are on the table in a big way.
I've had a look at the odds, and quite frankly they are ridiculous
NZ $1.19
Ireland $4.75Wales $1.40
France $3.00England $1.31
Australia $3.50Japan $5.50
SA $1.15 -

Of course I want the AB's to get the threepeat, but if not us, I'd like to see a new name on the cup. Probably Wales.
Gatland has been quietly going about his business, another country that loves rugby as much as us, I could buy that. But let's do the three peat

Actually, I reckon it will be better for international rugby in between years. Teams and coaches will start to have less of a focus on the RWC because, obviously, the ABs always win it and, therefore, hopefully the other tournaments and matches in between will become more important to them.
