World Cup Final match thread
-
I was too buggered to really absorb anything this morning but the achievements of this team are really starting to sink in now.

By winning this they've obliterated all that petty choking shit, about being owned by the French and Aus at world cups and about not being able to win a Cup away from home. They've taken 20 years of hurt and turned it into, imho, unarguably the finest moment in the history of AB rugby.

Some great players are retiring, but a part of me kind of wishes that we could now retire the All Blacks. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I just cant see how it can get any better than this. What a team and what a group of guys. Damn I'm proud. -
Yeah they clocked rugby

Some really awful pedotaches there -
It really was a superb play. Just saw it again on the replay. Dummy runner sucks in wobs defenders and a long pass for A Smith allows Smith to get outside the defence, nice little in an away draws Kurandrani in and rest is history. Beautifully simple. Superb !

Get your facts right. It was a rare native marsupial that have had their numbers decimated by climate change. It's mother had been killed by a homophobic hunter. The poor thing wandered into a man made dam near a coal mine. David was harvesting his organic pumpkins at the time and dived in to save the poor animal while still clutching the vegetable.

How do we know this. The 5th generation farmer took a selfie with the animal and David doing jazz hands. -

Thanks for quoting that Tim. I hadn't read it.

May not be the funniest quip of the thread but FFS where has your sense of humour gone? No need to delete. -
Sorry, I got a bit carried away. All I can say is that Im glad he has a very limited running game, because he is a beast at the breakdown. But damn that Fardy is probably a bigger threat. Was not displeased when he went off.
I thought that was a big difference too. We could keep our big players on for longer. Subbing Fardy seemed weird. -

More the pages one likes that sometimes get infested with knobs.

In order of importance from the current squad:

Kepu - who now qualifies under the Giteau rule - will go to France and has said he won't be making himself available (3 year contract with Bordeaux I believe). Can't blame him as he's not going to be making as much money as Giteau and Mitchell and therefore can't afford to give it up to fly across the world for training camps and such. Handy replacement on an EOYT.

AAC is going to Bordeaux as well i think, and has also basically indicated he's goneski.

Not sure if Mitchell and Giteau will be back after giving up a stack of cash for one more shot.

That is about 340 caps right there among 4 blokes - one of them a prop so more like 400 caps in terms of worth ;)

Quade is heading to Toulon - not that he contributed much - which is another 58 caps. Note: Quade is now unlikely to qualify for the Giteau rule. No fucks given from over here.

While a lot of these are backs, that is a heck of a lot of experience that will be unavailable, and subsequently the blokes coming through haven't had the opportunities. Then we've got other difficulties with e.g. Foley targeting 7s at the Olympics etc.

What is a small pool will be challenged next year. Hopefully the rest of the forward pack have a good off-season, get the surgery and rehab they need, and go again next year.

Cheika is the kind of coach who will wipe the slate clean in terms of form and start again next year.

But in that vein guys like Nic White as also leaving along with a few others who felt left out this year or last, or just in general got sick of the bullshit with the ARU. A lot of player movement OUT of Brisbane when their dimwit coach was reappointed too. Horwill gone, for example. And he's only 30.

We shall see I guess. There are some exciting young prospects on the chart now (McMahon etc) but I really think this period was about Cheika trying to win a RWC and next year there will be a different approach - hopefully a more unified direction from the Super franchises in terms of style of play to prepare these guys for what Cheika wants.

Quade's staying, isn't he?

With all the spots opening up in the NZ, Aus and SA squads and the Argies having a young squad too, the next four years will be really interesting to watch.
-

Nah, Quade has signed in France, but the planned crack at 7s looks a bit uncertain as he might not be released to play enough 7s prior to Rio to get in.

Unless he backs out of a contract, which these days...
-
Possibly the only person in NZ that wouldn't mind if Richie does retire?

It has all been said - what a performance. The whole team/squad/management take a bow. I love the who dares wins approach. They went out to win, not 'not to lose'

2011 felt like Richie willed us the cup. This time it was DC. Just like the semi final, when it got hairy, Carter stepped up big time. The huge raking touchfinder was important - we were losing the kicking battle in the minutes before then. That drop goal and penalty to boot. This is after getting whacked around by Sio in the first half - he's tough. Total class on and off the field. Champion players deserves this moment.

Wallabies did bloody well to manage the onslaught early and limit and then obviously the comeback. They are some team. Excellent tournament for them and great to have the proper Wallabies back.

What a performance by the whole team - NMS is a total weapon, SBW delivered like he has all tournament (he seems to grown up since being a father), Whitelock was amazing again, Kaino his physical best, Aaron Smith playing super quick etc. The management and coaching as well - Hansen what a coach, and the rest (coaches, selectors, strength and conditioning, mental skills).

I thought old firm all were special tonight - Richie everywhere, Nonu continuing on his crazy form (awesome tackle on beale and of course that try), Conrad smart summed up by that first try and Mealamu with some trademark runs off the bench...

..and of course Dan. What a player. Perfect way to cap off one hell of a career. The best player on the field in the crucial stages of the semi and the final. The man. -

So Ben Franks played 22 minutes, and no penalties.
