It's a very bad omen for the Spark's service when you visit the Spark Sport website when no games are on to explore signing up.... and you just get met with a blank black screen in your browser...

So far I have no regrets in not signing up.

New pub opening up in Matamata next week which will be showing the games which will be enough for me.

That sounds expensive, I would double my entire RWC subscription cost in one mild night at the pub watching the rugby (4 pints and a plate of something).

Although, I of course will be doing a bit of both anyway ....

@Rapido Yeah, I don’t get people who refuse to pay subscriptions and then spend the money in the bar in one night.

@Crucial Maybe it's to throttle mobile data? Android seems to be capped to 540p there.

@Bovidae although this one is live anyway, so maybe people will watch TV1 meaning there will be less load on Spark than is likely tomorrow....

    Definitely.

This is a useful graphic about the picture quality via different devices on SS.

I have the app on a Sony OLED with an Android OS and also an Apple TV 4K. The Sony’s app is practically unwatchable, the Apple TV One is alright. If they say it’s 1080p well OK but it’s not as good a picture as Sky’s 1080i.

7 mbps isn't much of a bitrate for 1080p60. 720p25 for sports is normally ≥ 2.5 mbps with h264 encoding, IIRC.

Mate hass just said TV news is reporting Spark customers in some areas (Whitianga, Havelock North, etc) being asked to upgrade their internet package or watch elsewhere after purchasing the RWC package. What's the goss?

    I have to laugh.

Got home tonight from the pub and true love has purchased it for me against my wishes. Gotta love her.

That was my impression too watching the Japan-SA game on an ATV. We can compare with TV1 picture quality.

Mmm I have a Sony LED 4K TV, that doesn’t sound promising. Will find out tonight...

"Coromandel town, Tairua and Havelock North, where its plans to build additional cell sites in time for the RWC have had to be delayed because of "strong community opposition"."

That must be good for neighbourly relationships.

Well, the streaming I'm getting from Spark is top notch, HD-quality and smooth as a baby oiled rugby ball

About 60,000 customers watched the opening ceremony and Japan-Russia game on SS. I'd be interested to know how many watched the FTA coverage in comparison.

Fucking stream stuttery as fuck with laptop plugged in, use same laptop too cast to TV and it's lovely. Weird. Was starting to rage...

I'd only previously watched on iPad (1014 and a couple of old games)
