@Chris-B said in RWC squad. Who's in, who's out?:

Patty T. competing with Hemopo and Fifita for the 4th lock position - once he won, they thought Jacobsen brings more to the 6 position.

So that means they still see Scott Barrett as ahead of Patty T in the lock pecking order.

Injury replacements for the 10 position that will be considered: Jordie Barrett, Tj Perenara, Ryan Crotty, even Ben Smith would be considered.

Edit: apparently, Crotty has played a fair bit at 10 when he was younger (school), including for NZ U19/20.

Ben Smith played Ten in England for a year as an amateur about 13 years ago.

Well that certainly settles a few nerves.

    You know what.
Bender will probably be alright at it.

@Frank That's what I took from that - which might have been a slightly unintended slip from Steve.

Franks impact in general play has waned for a while and most noticeably at the ruck where he was excellent at clearing bodies and helping to provide clean ball. So it isnโ€™t a surprise that he has been left out given we will be trying to play an uptempo game.

His scrummaging is still world class and I suspect a few looseheads around the world have a smile on their face knowing they wonโ€™t have to pack down against him come scrum time.

Hanson also said Ardie is bigger than he looks. That plus Frank's dropping I reckon confirms he's a ferner.

    But who? Southernman maybe

    Hansen is a Cantab.... ๐Ÿค”

Well he isn't gonna be obvious about it.

Maybe he'll do a Brian Colangelo and Southern Man is actually Mrs Shag

If Steve got the AB job based on his pronunciation of โ€œMaoriโ€ then serious questions need to be asked.

They have Jordie, TJ and Crotty as people who can play first five at a pinch.

TJ would be my pick in an emergency situation

@kiwiinmelb he was bad for the Canes there. I like the idea of Crotty there actually.

I think Beaver is leading a tour to Japan. Might need to check out the price of white bait at Kiji market

Super important squad player. Hope they play him against Tonga at ten then.

Basically if Beauden and Richie M collide and clash heads in the captain's run ahead of a test, we're f*****.

I made the same comment too.

Happy with the squad. Common sense with the 5 props taken although I would have been just as happy if Big Karl was selected ahead of Moli. Hopefully no injuries in the Tongan test.

Could say the same with the hookers, halfbacks, props. Losing the top two players in any position will hurt us.

Fox saying the midfield was the toughest selection and longest discussion - thinks there's a good chance Laumape will still get there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Scott Barrett can play 6 - an option to cover if necessary.

I think at the last WC , we took 3 locks from memory, that was a gamble, sometimes you just got to roll the dice with what suits the talent available

True, but that is why we are taking three Hookers, three half backs and five props (with three guys who can play each side).

Clearly they didn't see enough yet from Josh Ioane. Ryan Crotty will be fine against Canada or Namibia. But there is a risk of not having a specialist 10 for a major test.
