TRC: The All Blacks against the Springboks (version 98)

@taniwharugby yeah it's more that it happens all the time, so that must be the official interpretation. Or refs are just shyte and can't police it, just like the off side line, esp a few out from the ruck

yeah Franks is only there for the scrum, nothing else. But he was wank there today, so he should be gone. with fijita on, our replacement props sturggled, but they were better than the starters until then
Oddly Angus and Ofa looked good against starting Bok front row. But when shorter replacement Bok TH came on he managed to shear Ofa a couple of times, each time gaining penalties. IMO Ofa is NOT answer against best THs.

Right now Beauden is clearly our best 10 and 15.
If we play him at 15, we have to start a rookie at 10.
If we play him at 10, we start one of our most experienced players at 15.
In a WC year you really have to go with the latter. I'm really disappointed in the way RM played, not for the first time he has been found wanting when his team is on the back foot. I'd hoped he would step up after another fine SR campaign but he was very poor. I think he's too much of a risk - we are going to be under the pump like that three games in a row at the RWC and we just can't afford our 10 to shit the bed.

... and our experienced 15 isc oming back from a leg injury. Fitness and pace will come back as he gets mroe training time.
Also a comment for the Read/Cane/Savea combo. Great aroudn the park, but leaves us only three lineout options. Three is probably not enough against a top side, they'll read it too easily. Our defensive lineout steals have become a weapon over the last fwe years, and that by itself will take a step down if BBBR isn't there.

Tend to agree
I'd start Mo'unga vs AUS in both games but no way he starts a RWC Knockout game at #10
Mo'unga has a long way to go at #10 in Test Matches
Saw him play last year vs Pumas in Nelson and Sanchez outplayed him comprehensively -

BFA started very slowly last year, I thought he was past it but he came good in a big way. At 15 his pace isn't so important, it's fielding kicks and making good decisions on attack and defense where he excels.
We need Rieko to find his mojo again (I think he will) and a right winger. Who are the front runners there?
Bridge (rookie at test level)
Reece (rookie)
Jordie (not great pace, erratic performer)Who am I missing? Shit we are thin there...

@Jaguares4real what a silly comparison, Sanchez us vastly more experienced.

It's a valid comparison in the context of RM starting at 10 at the RWC. He will be up against vastly more experienced 10s, if he's not ready due to experience then he shouldn't start.

@No-Quarter that was in his 2nd or 3rd AB game 10 months ago...
I'm not quite ready to write anyone off after last night, too many big players were off, our game plan isn't working

Interested in attack of our forwards. Compare stats from our forwards last night (ESPN) from 1-8 number of carries 2,5,1,4,7,6,7,10 = 42. The Irish whose forwards I think are the best at work rate against us last year were 7, 6,12, 3, 17, 22, 9, 9 = 85. Metres are pointless itβs involvements. Our starting FR had on 8 carries? So what threat are they? Defences can almost ignore them and focus elsewhere in effect narrowing or attack. Right across the pack an issue for us. Anyways π€·ββοΈ

@booboo why?
What angle did old mate come from?
Wasn't cardable but certainly illegal, thus definitely not "fine". And not very friendly.
-
@98blueandgold Are the possession stats similar for both games? Because if they're not, you can't really compare stats for carries.

@Machpants said in TRC: The All Blacks against the Springboks (version 98):
Yeah but nothing out of the ordinary. According to the laws
An arriving player must be on their feet and join from behind their offside line.
A player may join alongside but not in front of the hindmost player.
A player must bind onto a team-mate or an opposition player. The bind must precede or be simultaneous with contact with any other part of the body.
That's it, the grinning giant was fine for me. Dozens of joins like that every game
1st italics. Imoact was well in front of hindmost
2nd italics. Bind?
3rdbitalics. Doesn't make it legal. -
Indeed
Tani was premature in his comments
Mo'unga was okay last night He had a crap start but improved as the game wore onWe'll see if he can be a dependable ABs #10 but he deserves a fair crack
But in a RWC year, time is not on your side
I'll retaliate it: Would I trust Mo'unga atm in a RWC knock out gameNo

Yeah, but, fact is RM hasn't played many games in black since then so is still very inexperienced at this level. Carves up Super rugby but so far has struggled with the step up when starting.
He's done well off the bench providing some impact against tired defense; right now that's what I see his role as for the RWC.
