To win the World Cup you need a squad. No problem with selections. But have to have your best goal kicker kicking. Dumb.

    How good was Coles though!

Basically the canes were the only reason we didn't lose

Once again Barrett’s boot has cost us a test against the Boks........

Of course we'll just forget the fact that he set up the one and only try.

His kicking is shart though. How does he usually kick in Japan? He's usually solid in the NH.

@Stargazer Nope. South African teams were knocked out in the Quarter finals, and many didn't play last week.

@KiwiMurph I thought Bridge was poor on defence in that last try. He needed to use his voice and call numbers over but didn't. Rieko was poor but he's still ahead of Bridge.

I can't fault that as a valid retort.

@KiwiMurph He isn't going to defend like Bridge did at the end.

Yeah, how the f did that midget have all that space?

Rieko's position is under serious threat from Bridge.

Rieko offers zero kicking game so his value in this sort of a game is fuck all.

Yeah, but, I'm not convinced Ben Smith has the pace to play wing anymore. Then Rieko plays by default as we don't have any other wings.

Our back three is the weakest it has been in a very long time.

As others have said, a few players - Read, Franks and possibly Ben Smith - look past it. We still have no answer to the rush defence. BB’s boot lets us down in key matches. Our attack coach (and heir apparent to Hansen) appears clueless. We still lack a decent blindside. But the most depressing thing is the possible loss of Retallick for the WC.

They're not competing for a spot. Rieko is a lock-in.

Definitely a 1991 feeling to this team. Older, slower and no obvious ways to fix the weaknesses.

The decision to go for the 3 and not the lineout was wrong in hindsight.

Piss off. We would have lost.

How did you work that out?

Got to pick the best ten first. Was notable how much BB played at ten in the second half and how much better the backline looked when he did.

Richie is a big step down at 10.

Barrett was the best player on the park, and kept us in the game. He's essential.

Hopefully we won't see any loose forwards covering locks in key games from now on. Surely they've learnt their lesson.

    Right,

    Right?

@Kirwan Mounga needs time because we need another 1st. Was good in second half. Many times BB has been criticised as well. Just par for course.

They’ll rightly not be afraid of us at the WC.

How many players are past it or just not good enough?

I'm pretty certain we'll play way more direct off the ruck if we meet them in the RWC. I feel like we're "keeping our powder dry" as we kept going wide with depth when if we'd played direct in close we'd make inroads.

Was SBW as bad as everyone made out? I watched first half on my phone coming back from the State House Rugby on the train but he didn't look as bad as the comments (obviously not saying he was good 😉 ) but will do i full screen rewatch tomorrow..

So the way to make Barrett a good 10 (as opposed to a rugby player which he already is) is to select him at fullback and having him play up in the line it seems? Still need someone to kick the goals though.
