Hair of the dog after the world cup blinder?
Aus batting looks much superior than England. More experience and 3 batsmen with an awful lot to prove. I guess the poms add Butler and Stokes but there were some unfamiliar top order bats in the England game, with some odd techniques. Aus warm up game didn't do much for the batsmen though.
Bowling will be interesting. You'd think the English would exploit their conditions better and Broad and Woakes are reliable. Aus must play Pattinson. He got one of those chicken wire wrapped vertebrae ops from that surgeon in Christchurch, like Bondy and Corey got, a couple of years ago. Some Aus first class players told me he's really quite scary to face and he's really highly rated, as Hohns delighted in his press conference. I think he's a bit like Bondy, in ability and importance to a team.
So yeah, I'm unashamedly spruiking for big Jimmy.
Smith is going to get a shit ton of runs and the Aussies will take it 3-2. (?). Weather might be influential
Dunno but should be a cracking series. Both teams vulnerable in their own way, but Aussie with loads to play for, poms riding a cricket wave after being crowned world champions of boundary count backs, and I wonder if the team with most Ashes caps will prevail.
Should be more interesting than the last Ashes, anyway. And there'll be some langer and ponting "not crossing the line" antics at some stage I'll wager
Bring it on, too much sport is never enough!

I dunno - England at home may edge it. The thing is we just don't know; the Aussie batting may be excellent, but if the home crowds fire up, who knows how they cope.
Going to be tasty. I hate to bet against Aus in this from of the game, but home advantage could be influential

First test will likely be all about the bowling conditions, until each line up gets used to the ball nipping around for longer periods. So maybe low first innings scores to make it extra spicy!
Picking smith to go on a rampage. But overall they appear reasonably even in terms of squad strength. -
Who would you drop for Pattinson?
-
Both a bit frail against the moving ball.
Biggest difference imo is Khawaja should be 1 billion percent better than England's number 3, so Smith should have a good chance to dominate the series, unlike Root with 2 Lance Cairns and 1 Ewen Chatfield in his top 3.
Conditions and Duke ball means Aussie pacemen's prowess will be a bit wasted on 'this shit'. Siddle needs to play, and 2 out of 4 amazeballs pacemen (Starc, Pattinson, Cummins, Hazlewood) need to sit this out.
Aus should win IMO, both teams have amazed me with their ineptness at times the last 4 or 5 years in test cricket, could go either way.

@Siam I agree. Feels like we're wasting electrons, eh ... just no idea how this goes. That's what makes it interesting too I guess
Question for me now is who would make me happier if they won? I think I lean towards the English... but then I feel a bit ill
-
-
@mariner4life that's a good question.
Hazelwood or Cummins or see who doesn't perform well after test 1.?
Play all 4 and bat Cummins at 7? Nah probably not because they'll need rat ratface, the off spinner.
Tough on who gets dropped but I shall continue my fan boi status for Pattinson, but not to the extent of the fans of world cup star and saviour of all rugby, Akira - that's just plain delusion 😉

After the World Cup, it's Australia all the way with this one.

yarr.... but cheating Australia, vs arrogant pommage? Maybe a 0-0 draw perhaps?
Going to be an interesting series, that's for sure

Have 4 pacemen + the GOAT. Win the toss and bowl, rip England out for 150 then hope we can do it from there.
That backfires, drop the worst paceman and dig in.

Cummins is a decent bat, but not sure he's good enough play 7 just yet mate. I guess he wouldn't be worse that some of the guys that have played there.
5 bowlers and 2 keepers would be some out of the box thinking.

Overkill. Just need 3 seamers and a spinner to get through this English lineup.
If I was Aus, I wouldn't even bugger about with the allrounder at 6 malarkey they've been doing with Labuschagne and M Marsh etc. Pick 6 batsmen. England will pass 400 only once in the potential 10 digs this series at most - no matter who you pick.
I think I heard on recent TMS podcast during the Irish test that England have passed 400 only 1 in their last 20 odd test innings.

Probably my favourite equal sporting event. I love the Ashes in England.
Someone suggested it will be 3-2, that would make it one of the greatest series ever but I think we will lose at lease one match to rain
Gotta agree with you there. Even as a neutral it is such good viewing.
Remember this ? always good to see a couple of my more favourite cricketers having a go at eachother......

I love that clip. Heaps of hate and passion, no one got hurt and it made for a heightened contest.
Hopefully that will be Broad and Warner!

KP was a wicked batsman back in the day, so good to watch when in form and MJ was so fiery ( and also a great player ).
Not sure anyone today would compare for me personally.
