Geez I'm with @Stargazer people really do underestimate Todd. He's a quality performer.
fuck, not you as well. Cheese with the whine?
No one underestimates Todd. Pretty much everyone in the country thinks he's damn good player. The problem is, he's the 3rd ranked openside. And he only plays openside. So, unless they are planning on starting both Cane and Savea, there isn't a huge chance he makes the plane. And therefore giving him this game is a bit of a waste of time.
And the only criticism i have seen is he's not exactly physical in the tackle. And that's pretty fair i would have thought.

Todd is Pocock - Good tackler who is great over the ball Average in attack
Cane is like Hooper - Not as good over the ball but is versatile to his teamstop proving how little you actually know about rugby, this is about as far away from valid as is possible to get.

Not picking a specialist lock on the bench and instead two two loosies would be pretty concerning for Tuipolotou, who's definitely 4th lock at best once Barrett is fit.
Patty T is safe to me. He is just locked in a weird position where he can't force play his way into the match day 22 and there seems little appetite to supplant him as the fourth best lock. They need to take specialist lock coverage given Whitelock/Rettalick will be carried in the squad if injured early but still have the potential of coming right for a semi or final.
He is a bit years Colin Slade, needs a modicum of game time to keep him fit, but otherwise he can just sit tight.
In 2015, though, we took only three specialist locks and six loosies. I think they'll follow the same formula, so I reckon Patty only makes the plane if they plan to use Scott Barrett as a blindside flanker.

Big Karl and Big Patty T. look like significant losers with this selection.
Ofa and Angus as the bench props would be concerning for both Karl and Nepo Laulala, since it points a bit to one of those two missing the RWC cut - and since Karl hasn't been given a run, maybe it's him in the gun.
Karl T is very clearly no. 2 LH at scrum time, so it's one of him/Moli. Ofa seems to have shown he can cover both sides, so think the real call is Laulala/Ta'Avao.
You'd think so, but it is very surprising to me that Karl hasn't been given any game time in either match so far. Seemed like someone mentioned there were a few question marks about his fitness - so maybe they're focusing on getting him fitter.
Would be pretty unbalanced if they took three tightheads and Moody and Ofa as their looseheads. I don't think Ta'avao could cover loosehead at international level and I don't really see Moli as much more than "in the frame".

What the fark? That's a whine? Yeah good one...
As for what you think is fair...Well yeah it would be if it was true. Thankfully you'll be able to verify that in the weekend eh.

This team is a fucking gamble, and the brains trust should face backlash if it doesn't work. But they won't, because the World Cup has fucked everything up.
A part-time fullback. Another new midfield, including a dude with serious doubts over current ability. A loose forward trio comprising of a seriously untested (at any level) rookie, and a veteran with form concerns. The bench contains a rookie, and a bloke who hasn't cut it at test level in any position.

Health might be a better word. Whatever the illness was, he was out of rugby for a long time

stargazer had the whine, you continued it.
And i would have thought it was fair base don a long past history. Does he have the physicality of the other two options at 7 or not?
-
@mariner4life how was that whining? It's an observation. Or are you whining too?
Yes he does.

Lots of hysterical overreactions here, and that’s perfectly okay because I was having a similar meltdown when I read the team selection... until I talked myself off the ledge remembering the brains trust has delivered two consecutive WC championships, and that has to be worth something. The selectors might even know more about their profession than some of us, certainly not all of us, but me definitely. Keep the faith.

ABs are well stocked at Lock for 2019 RWC
When Hemepo is 4th choice you're doing wellProblem is in 2020 when only S Barett returns
Sam Whitelock is back for the All Blacks in 2020.

which is all well and good. Except i am getting kinda tired of watching us play shitty football. I don't watch rugby games thinking about the next game, i watch games to be entertained. I was not entertained on the weekend. I wasn't entertained for most of last year either. Frustrated would be the word i would use.

Smells like teen spiriit. Dial it down a little. Reserve the toy tossing until after the test match.
