I'm going to be fascinated with the referendum results. Generally I'm only hearing from the lunatics on social media but i wonder what proportion of NZ that is. It would be good if they had some sort of tickbox next to your flag choice.

Tick here if the reason you have chosen this flag is because you feel as a New Zealander this flag represents your country

or tick here if the reason you chose this flag is because of any of the following
- TPPA, Due authority, War veterens, treaty of waitangi, John Key, US corporations, the illuminati, big pharma, steel beams, tinfoil hats etc

Syrian refugees, falling milk powder prices, Chinese house buyers, Maurice Willismson being a cock , mortgage rates , Auckland property prices

That's just off the top of my head and I didn't even mention dolphin midwives .

First the kyle lockwood small blue large black that Tony veitch got behind..way after it didnt maje rhe top 40 now this red peak bollucks which according to stuff is the peoples choice...where do they get this tripe last I looked the facebook page only had 1000 likes..hardly compelling. Im sure I could get a 1000 likes if i put a picture of my balls on a flag...i have had a few whiskeys, challenge accepted!?

You say that as if the public had any say over the final 40 or the final 4. Those were chosen by the panel - when the choices are made it's only natural that people will feel aggreived that their chosen flag didn't make it... hence the campaigns to have them added.

I don't envy the panel as keeping everyone happy was simply impossible, but I do think the final 4 designs are very poor and I won't be voting to change to any of them. Just my opinion of course! People need to make their voices heard by actually voting, but just like the general election half the country won't even bother and then that same half of the country will proceed to bitch and moan about who/what got elected. -

seriously though, how do they come up with the final however many for people to vote for?

It is never going to be perfect...Imagine how many woulda voted for the Kiwi laser one if they put up submitted flags to the vote! How do you say this one doesnt qualify for the vote, this does...
-
Damned if I want the nation's flag to look like a road sign. Do a deal with the NZRFU or forget about it.

I don't play golf, but I believe they call this a "Mulligan."
-
The momentum behind the red peak design is in its simplicity. People have come around to realizing that a flag needs to be recognizable on a small scale and easily drawn. All respect to the panel members but for some inexplicable reason they completely missed these points. Throw in some added subtle Maori symbolism and links to NZ's heritage and environment and any basic design is a winner. It's ridiculous that we have to choose from three variations of a complicated fern design and a black and white koru. Hopefully common sense prevails and we have additional options to vote on or this is a massive opportunity lost.

True that, I'd initially thought there was going to be 3 votes and the public would vote on the list of 40, shame they didnt do it that way -

My son was asking about why we are changing, and also pointed out that the new ones would be hard to draw. Flags should be simple, they make great points.

Why should flags be simple to draw?

You tried to draw our old flag properly? What about the US flag?

I think easily recognisable is far more important, and out current one is not.
-

many 10 year olds would be better drawers than I!

-
Yeah no thought at all for the artistically challenged adults. I would struggle to draw the red peak flag let alone anything with a fern and stars.

Maybe they should be. My 5 year old nephew doesn't appear to know the lyrics to the national anthem (particularly the Maori verses) - perhaps we need to change it to something from the Wiggles or High School Musical catalogue?
-

:)

Although, your 5 year old nephew is a High School Musical fan ....
-

The whole ordeal has been laughable. A shortlist of 40 of the most pathetic designs I have ever seen and then a top 4 of the most pathetic designs selected by a bunch of no hoper loser.

There is no way our flag will change to one of these piss weak ones.

Yes mad.
-

pretty easy to criticise the process, but i dont see any better ideas on how it could have been done (to appease everyone...) being put forward...maybe you change the people selecting, but you will still draw the same criticisms of them from some corners.

-

After seeing some of the sort of people who are getting behind the red peak and their fairly transparent pathetic motives ( they think Key is the anti Christ) I'd quite like to distance myself from it. Sneering left wing piston wristed gibbons like Russel Brown who have been derisive of the whole idea of change and the process suddenly supporting a design more of less because it isn't in the final four and it's trending on twitter are not really people I'd like to be associated with.
I'm thinking the status quo is likely to win and an opportunity a wasted. If labour somehow get into govt any changes they try to make are quite likely to get rat fucked by the likes of Cameron Slater for no other reason than just because they can , karma is a bitch.
-
Do you like any of the final 4 designs enough to change to one of them jegga?

I'm not disagreeing with anything you've said there, just curious.
