Who does TSF want to be the next AB coach?
-
you'd have to think Razors odds have shortened even further?
I know we have had great continuity at the top of NZR for a long time, but I think the last couple of years have shown we need some fresh blood in there for some new ideas, and Razors CV stack up better than anyone (who is supposedly available)

No
Robertson needs to spend years in Europe
He;s only being around U20 ABs and Canterbury
Spend some years coaching in Top 14, English Premiership or Pro 14 & learn some alternative style of play and keep on developing his rugby IP
I'd rather have Schmidt and Gatland coaching ABs over Razor post 2019 RWC
-
@Jaguares4real why does he have to do that, he has proved what he has to in NZ where he is coaching? I dont agree he must head off to enhance his CV.
You could argue his time having ROG alongside him has expanded his expertise to include a NH view anyway.
I also said of those available, of which, we are lead to believe neither Gats or Schmidt are.

ROG has certainly left his mark
Razor turn 45 in 2 weeks Very young in coaching age
Will have to wait until 2023 at the earliest to get a shot
How much can he really achieve by sticking around in NZ with Crusaders?
He has to replace ROG and Moroar as they're off to Europe
Every other major NZ coach this century has gone to Europe and improved themselves
Only exception being Dingo Deans

A break dancing all black coach is the stuff dreams are made of ,
Just do what it takes, give him the job

It's a particularly pointless option for Razor as the Crusaders already can play multiple styles, which Jags should have noticed from the final.
Over the past few years they have often employed a NH style ten man rugby/scrum/maul them to death/play field position style when the conditions or the opposition demand it.
More often they play the standard NZ style of play whats in front of you, even if means attacking from the 22.
Plenty of variations between those two generalisations as well. The Crusaders don't play one style of rygby, that's part of the reason they are hard to beat. If their gameplan isn't working, they try something else.

doesnt make it right or the only way...Razor appears to have broken the mold and his success is unprecedented.
Sometimes being innovative means doing something a bit different.
His age is irrelevant, if you are good enough, you are the right age...
At any rate, so who then do you suggest, as I said, assuming not Gats and no Schmidt.

I do worry that it might be too soon for Robertson, much like Wayne Smith in 99. But I'd still take him over Foster and/or Cooper.
I know he's had pretty much as good a set of players as a coach could dream for, but to string 6 titles in as many years is remarkable. He also seems to be extremely good at building a coaching staff, which I think is one of the most important traits to have as an AB coach.
-
I'm aware of the Crusaders ability to adopt many styles of play
But learning is a constant act Being exposed to Canterbury alone is only going to allow him to learn so much
He would benefit from some time overseas coaching to challenge himself and broaden his horizons
Razor has plenty of time He needs to wait in line
Plenty of worthy coaches for ABs: Cotter Rennie Gatland Schmidt etc
Unless Foster is an utter incompetent goose There wont be any vacancies for at least 4 years

yeah that is a worry, he has had a meteoric rise, and was it about 12 months ago he reckoned he wasnt ready.

If Hansen and Foster are anything to go by he should probably stop the breakdancing and find some good pie shops too.

Not being a close follower of the Chiefs I am not as closely aligned passing an opinion on this as the Chiefs supporters we have on this site who will be able to offer their opinions as to confirming one way or the other their views on your statement re his overall competency. Being a selector coach involves much more than simply coaching a bunch of players.

If only we knew who was available. Two of those probably not, so not that many worthy options.

Oh, and his years at the Chiefs...ouch. Honk honk.
Not to say he hasn't learnt, but his history doesn't endear him to most AB fans I suspect.

A man walks into a bar and an Argentinian fan calls for Foster or Gatland to be AB coach. Good joke

@ACT-Crusader "fan of Argentinian rugby..."

So if the Lions coach is ruled out, and the bloke who said he wants a break for family reasons (Schmidt). Vern hasn't covered himself in glory (although that could be a cattle issue) and apparently Rennie is off to coach the Wallabies.
Options look thin.
