Have heard that SBW re injured the same knee at training yesterday and is out of the first test..Got a lot of time for the guy..but is this now becoming a risk ..?,seems a bridge to far to me.
I expect if SBW makes the RWC squad Laumape or whoever misses out will be taking a month long holiday in Japan some time in September/October...

I'd think being found guilty of wife ashing in a court would be TERRIBLE
Missing out on a pro contract paying better coin wold be TERRIBLE
Having the incidence reported ad nausiem would be TERRIBLE
I'm no fan of reactionaries and puritans
He committed a crime and was dealt with at the time
As far as I'm concerned he is forgiven and life goes on
That's great. You keep focusing on the poor perpetrator of the crime. Woe is him, indeed.

I'm not super comfortable with Reece being selected either, but I'm also not comfortable with ending someone's career over one incident that didn't result in a conviction.
We have courts for that, social media mobs are not how we want to apply justice.
If he does it again all bets are off though. He should have his contract ripped up.

That's a fair summary. I'm just a bit tired of all the sympathy for Reece in this situation.

I don;t think many folks feel sorry for Reece
He;s paid a high price for his actions already
We have a Criminal Justice System and that;s good enough for me
Not interested in knee jerkers & pearl clutchers
Sivivatu and Savea were great All Black Wingers
TBH I don't give a fuck about the fact they both bashed their wives
Savea is still with his lady as is Reece Both were dealt with in courts
That's good enough for me

Was with you until that line. We should care about anybody bashing their wives, be they are rugby player or not. NZ has a poor domestic violence record, and we should be pressuring our community to be better than that.
Once it's dealt with in the courts, I agree there shouldn't be further sanctions, people need to learn from their mistakes.

I'm, talking about Rugby players here
Not expecting much from them off the field TBH
If he was a Politician, Doctor Police Officer etc then I'd be concerned
If Reece delivers on the field for Crusaders & ABs everyone will forget the incident with his lady very quickly
I;m fine with that
-
@Jaguares4real so it's ok for rugby players to bash thier wives, but not Politicians?
So ok for female rugby players to bash thier husbands...what if husband is a rugby player too, or a politician, is he allowed to fight back?
I am sure you dont mean it like that, but thats how it is coming across.
No one will forget the incident, the fact Savea and Siviatus similar indiscretions are bought up proves that.

I don't care is different from saying it's okay
A National Politician has a much greater potential impact on your life than a bloody rugby player
Rugby is a sport a form of entertainment Fans don't go Player X is a wonderful role model or Player Y is a dickhead off the field
ALL about producing on the field
The incidents Savea & Sivivatu were involved were wrong but an insignificant to the point of irrelevant aspects of their rugby career

No, they look to all of them as role models, whether they like it or not.
-
@taniwharugby said in 2019 Rugby Championship:
h
They can look up to them as role models for all I care
Kids ideally should be looking at family members friends etc for role models
At that age Kids will have little idea what their sports hero gets up to off the field
-

agreed, but that is only part of it, and you are being naive if you believe kids dont look to thier sports heroes as role models.

No one should be bashing their wife. Occupation is utterly irrelevant. Also, implying that all rugby players are thick thugs is hugely disrespectful. FFS.
First part is most relevent. The fact this has to be spelled out actually makes me sad.
the 2nd part? Really pisses me off. I fucking hate that generalisation about rugby players. Most especially because I, and pretty much all my friends, played rugby all our lives (until we got too old).
At least we know jags4life never played, helps when judging his "insight"

This is a rugby forum few are interested in off field dramas No one is pro wife bashing
Where have folks got this idea I;m generalising or labelling rugby players as dumb meatheads......
My point was fans rarely give a monkeys about players off the field
Deliver on he field and all is forgivenThanks for deducing I never played rugby
I forgot about playing as a teenager it was a while ago but still in the 21st century
-
@Jaguares4real maybe a bit more time on the fern will show we are typically interested in a bunch of stuff around and in addition to sport. If you've have been lurking for a while you've missed a bit.
You didn't call them meatheads but an earlier post clearly stated you don't expect as much of them as politicians or presumably other 'professionals'?. Why is that?
-
to be honest, I'm surprised you're not still a teenager.
I'm willing to cut you a bit of slack because i assume English is your 2nd language, so there will be some shit lost in translation. But the general gist of your posts is you are pretty cool with someone beating on their missus, as long as they are good at footy. That's pretty fucked up.

All these big spaces and capitals make me think I'm reading stories from my sons from school.
Oh and if you smack a woman round most people tend to think you're a bit of a fluffybunny too, he needs to wear that.
Your 1st sentence:
Your 2nd sentence is your POV You're entitled to it
I'd thought folks would be a little more open minded and less judgemental The whole saint complex is a little tedious
I'll let the pearl clutchers & professionally offended bitch and moan
Reece is a rugby player & a very good one atm anything else is meaningless frankly
But hey MN5 you can go and preach to the TSF masses about your flawless character
Well Iām humble enough not to shout it from the rooftops but I tend not to hit women
