@SammyC Is that a direct quote?

Nice to get some actual answers!

Yeah I’m watching the announcement and paused it to type that. Thought a few on here would be interested 🙂

You know the sad thing is as an absolute Akira fanboi is that he's dropped so far off the radar I'm no longer disappointed that he's missed out.

Am disappointed we don't get the benefit of his talents. And that's down to him.

No idea, but I assume that this means that his AB career is over - isn't he off at the end of the year? Do you think he was told something then made himself unavailable? I don't understand why he wouldn't make himself unavailable - was anything said about it at the presser?

He'd previously missed games for family circumstances, I wonder if it the same stuff (whatever that was) still hanging over his head. You've gotta go full on commitment to be an AB.

I guess because Harris is liable to hit me in Australia when throwing into the lineout in Auckland.

@number9 Cos the AB selectors know more about selecting than you, I guess. He's been good, and has long term upsides. They're developing like they did Ardie, apprentice etc. he turned out alright in the end.

I hope one of those extended number of lose forwards stands up and grips the 6 position, cos there are tons of almost players there. It will be worse if none do cos then we may have an undercooked Squire pulled in. ALso I really hope SBW either totally owns it or totally stuffs up. As with 6, midfield is a mess and really needs time together - IMO ABs tests are not he place to bring a player up to speed. And SBW is well off pace, and Crotty out for entire RC - a mess.

Just what we need at a RWC, midfield conundrums - goes really well that.

Not a bad squad. 2 Magpies is a good start.

What a difference a year makes, a year ago I was going WTF is Frizell doing in the squad he doesn't even start, now I'm thinking thank fudge he's kept the Luckiest Luke out of the team. Glad Hemopo made the squad too.

I need to have one big complaint or else I wouldn't be me, so: not sure I'm happy with Reece being there (not for rugby reasons obviously) - people seem to forget that he had signed to go overseas before his contract got cancelled. That suggests he was hitching his wagon to Fiji and now all of a sudden he's full on Kiwi again.

Isn’t squire unavailable as heading to Japan?

Heard they were chasing Hayden Parker too but he had to choose Japan or ABs and he chose to stay with the $

(Haven’t read all the above so apologies if repeating)

I really do not think they would select Hayden Parker over J Ioane who has come on leaps and bounds this season.

Also, not that I really what to engage in fans whining because their team only got 5 of the backs they wanted in the team instead of 6 - but Havilli basically lost a spot to Ennor didn't he? They wouldn't carry both of them as utilities you'd presume.

    1. Just because he's off overseas next year, doesn't make you unavailable, just if two equal players one staying/one going, they'll pick the staying. If that was true you couldn't pick, for example, Captain K Read! Squire made himself unavailable.

    2. No way ABs would be chasing Parker, a SR club might, but he's not enough class for that. Ioane is better all round, and ABs will be happy with 2x10s and a utility backup.

Hey I’m not arguing for Parker at all, just passing on what I heard from a pretty reliable source.

Wasn’t today either, was end of last week.

@Nepia I wasn't whining (I think I'm the only one who mentioned him). I was just expressing my disappointment. That's not the same thing.

I think he competes mostly with Jordie and Bridge, because he's first and foremost a fullback (at least at the Crusaders). I think Ennor is only there because Crotty isn't.

What makes him a drop kick ? having met him can confirm he seems a really nice joker with massive potential it's just a shame lineout throwing is part of the job description.

So, aside from the undroppable SBW, who's the luckiest fecker in the Squad, do you think?

How about who's the most unluggy poor bugger that missed out?

    71bef9a4-2ddc-4218-bfda-ed58284318be-image.png

For me the luckiest forward is actually Matt Todd. He's a sader, so can't play the first game, and won't be going to Japan (outside of injuries to Ardie or Cane) - he's just another of the bloated number of loose forwards. We know he can cut it, and is first on the plane if injuries strike. I guess he's there cos Ardie has put in the time over SR, and doesn't need much more over RC. Backs it's Jordie, who has the ability to feck oop so badly as to lose us the cup - obviously an SBW who's highlights since RWC15 is a little good defence along with being injured often, a waste of a spot in the 7s team, and losing us the Lions tour is majorly lucky that the Wise Men believe his experience is so useful.

Unluggy would be Havili, better than Jordie but I guess isn't that 3rd 10 covering one RWC pool game for our 2 normal tens

Has Havili played any 10? Seems like he has the skillset.

Pretty happy with this squad, omit SBW and everyone is basically there on form.

Think Shag's comments indicate that if RC and Barrett (S) hadn't been injured squad would have been 41.

@pakman yeah 39+ Crots & Scooter = 41. That's the squad, two of them can't play for a bit tho.

@Machpants I don't think Todd is the luckiest forward and I think he'll go to the RWC, because with Squire gone, Ardie will be used as no. 8 cover and that is a good reason to take another 7 (with Cane able to play 6 as well).

Luckiest forward to me is Asafo Aumua, who benefits from not having a great third hooker.

Luckiest back is most definitely SBW. Yuck.
