Who is the AB's 4th choice at 10?

ut at the time he was signed to Panasonic, they specifically had to grant him a release.
Again these are all shades of gray. A player could be selected under the provision they sign a contract to return to NZ at the conclusion of their current contthe release was to play for the ABs during the period he was contracted to Panasonic, not to return to NZ and continue playing with the Crusaders where he was contracted also.

Exactly my point. The NZRU set the precedent last year that they are willing to ask private clubs to release players for international duty.
Previously not only did the NZRU say they would not ask, but you wouldn't be considered to begin with.

Maybe no one, for the RWC anyway

A good argument imo

We wouldn't be in this situation if they hadn't insisted on making a sow's ear out of a silk purse.
This sums it up for me, we went to the last RWC with 4 test quality 10s and will head to this one with 0.
Not sure about your math on that one?
Are you counting 2015 Beaudy, but not the 2019 version?
I reckon 2019 Mo'unga is better than 2015 Slade. Probably better than 2015 Beauden as a first five as well.
Would be interesting to go back and read the thread surrounding the demise of Cruden in 2015. I reckon we'd have some panic around a creaking Carter, fullback Beaudy and rabbit in headlights Slade.
Iirc there was plenty of hyperventilating about even Carter in 2015. And I don't think there were many here who were comfortable with the prospect of Slade being 10 at the pointy end of the tournament. Same goes for BB and Lima.

@Rancid-Schnitzel In 2011 it was Danny Boy - and then Colin Slade, who went to the RWC with two test starts - vs Fiji and vs SA (in a game we lost) and three goes off the bench (two of which Carter stayed on the field).
Sir Graham had made a bollocks of his first five selections and we were probably a bit lucky that Colin got injured.

To be fair Evans had pissed off and he tested every other 10 in NZ. I think it was a mistake selecting Donald in 2010 but he had been in excellent form.

@Duluth no mention of Perofeta despite ABs saying they would have picked him ahead of Cameron last year if fit.
Man NZ rugby journos

@KiwiMurph Pefofeta being picked would worry me just as much as Cameron. Way too green in SR.
I understand if Perofeta was playing rugby.

James Marshall is also an option as he will be returning for the Canes this Friday. Experienced head on his shoulders and quality at running the team but there could be ?? around his goal kicking.

Another leftfield name to add to the mix if you are looking for experience:

Just posted this in the RWC forum.
The AB's will take a third #10.
Why?
because imagine the colletive shit-fit we would have if Beaudy or Richie got injured against a minnow. And also because we play two minnows is the very reason they will take a third #10, because these are the exact games that a third #10 should start in, because they're fucking minnows.
Should Beaudy or Richie go down, you'd want the third #10 having been in and around the AB environment and had some time in the saddle, and those two games v minnows and maybe the one v Tonga before we go is the best and most perfect opportunity.
Sounds ridiculous but I'd take Dan Carter if he looks like he might heal from that neck thing, he could do the job off the bench surely. Experience, and also been playing in Japan.
After death and taxes, you can be sure the selectors are going over every option. -

Don't dispute that. My point was it was shoddy journalism not to mention him.

@westcoastie You could play a prop at 10 against those minnows.

Fark that'd be funny.
This week, we've named Ofa at 10. We're keen to see how he goes
