Hate the thread title but I liked starting it with three G words.
I am on opposite side of fence to this article. You have a howler on the green, that's your problem. Sergio knows the rules. He swiped at it way too quick.
I would have happily claimed the hole.

@Hooroo have had that happen to me (and for) in pennants before...everyone knows someone that just never gives putts at all, while others are overly generous.
It is a personal thing really, dont have a problem with it.

Except he would have given it as it was less than a foot. He just didn't have time to. What I don't like is Sergio asking him to concede a hole to even it back up.

There are a few parallel's between this and the Ravi Ashwin mankad saga in the IPL.
You can have all the views you like about how the game should be played, but at the end of the day the rules are clear.
If you want to avoid trouble, play by the rules. Don't miss the putt/wait for the concession. Stay in your crease when you're backing up.
Kuchar is a bit of a dickhead, but Sergio should have known that. It's on him IMO.

@Hooroo yeah Sergio is pushing it...
Oh for sure, plenty are gimmees all day every day, but guess it depends how well you know the person and if there is the unspoken acceptance of it as well..but in big tournies peoples are often tougher on them and require verbal acknowledgement...oh, and matches with your mates with beer on the line, cnuts can putt them all day long!
I played in a quadrangler tournament one time, and was 1 guy from Auckland we played, he didnt give a single putt all weekend, even those sitting on the lip, but everyone knew he was like that so putted everything out.
-
Sorry Sergio, but that's a learning experience for you and nothing else.
Bit rough for people to come down hard on Kuchar I reckon, it's a professional tournament, played by professionals . Why should Kuchar concede a hole because Sergio had a brain fart? He missed the putt, he went for the tap in and fucked that up too. So what if he was going to give it - Sergio didn't give him the opportunity, made his own decison to take the putt and missed it.
Seems to be a bit of a campaign against Kuchar at the moment. McGinleys comments are pretty straight and nothing short of a straight character assassination.

Though it seems Kuchar isn't entirely blame free. Apparently he approached the officials to alert them that he hadn't conceded
From the BBC
Sympathy for the American drained when he acknowledged that he had spoken to an official. Kuchar revealed: "I said, 'Sergio, I didn't say anything. I'm not sure how this works out.' I didn't want that to be an issue.
"So I asked [the referee]. I said, 'Listen, I don't know how to handle this, but I didn't concede the putt. Sergio missed the putt.'Still within the rules but also makes him look a bit advantageous?

I think it is the opposite. He said to Sergio he hadn't given it and then clarified the ruling as the hole was only complete after Sergio had muffed it. He was seeking advice which they all do when there is a contentious issue/ruling

@MajorRage I would've called an opponent on it in Pennants any time. It's a basic error (from a highly paid professional) and Garcia has no one to blame but himself.
I would have too and would have been very interested to see how they responded on the next tee. Reckon a very high chance of their ball sailing OB haha....the pressure

That Kevin Na vid is cool. Dude is a ball of energy lol.
Golf seems to have endless rules and protocols, but in this case it seems Garcia made a mistake. Even if Kuchar is a bit of a tool.

They just had a bit of a clean up of the rules recently to make it a little more simple and to speed up the game. But you are right as there are a squillion little rules to be aware of
