Apparently, other tier 2/3 nations are not invited ... still not getting the message.

At the end of the day you have to have promotion/relegation to ensure you have the top 12 nations. Having USA/Japan guaranteed does not mean they will instantly become competitive. If the US want access to broadcasting money then they need to do the hard yards and qualify for the top 12 IMO. Would having only 1 team promote/relegate be more palpable to Scotland and Italy?

World Rugby should be the ones dictating the competition and selling it to the broadcasters, not the broadcaster dictating World Rugby.

I also believe having the tier 2 world league being broadcast and promoted could only benefit those countries.

Ideally a platform like Kayo here in Aus where you simply pay $25 a month (Can be shared by 2 people) giving you access to all rugby streamed to any device is the way forward.

Also the length of the broadcast deal is ridiculous, so much can change in that time. I really believe technology will change the way we digest sport.

What they are doing with VR in the NFL is surely just the start and as that technology improves it will become a very immersive experience.

@chimoaus What I would like from a broadcaster (apart from NZ levels of rugby camera/ director or Aust cricket) is the ability to chose my own camera and commentary team. I appreciate the BW considerations, but it's my wish list.

The ironic thing in this whole scenario is how much the local media has gone into overdrive about the snub of the Pacific Islands (with the usual array of Taffs going into overdrive about poaching etc), and how little they have said about the emerging nations on their own doorstep (Georgia etc).

It's an amazing reach for a single Herald article, which was (like most of these things) just some possibilities reported as certainties. Does show that WR would do better if it was totally open about it's discussions, rather than doing everything behind closed doors whilst the people that really count (the public that care about rugby) are supposed to wait like children for their masters decisions.

Easier said than done when you're canvasing opinions, presenting options and collating feedback from so many stakeholders. They're elected to manage this sport so we basically have to accept it and then bitch at the outcomes. 🤣

Yes, the ironic thing is that the Walrus initial response was how out of touch the NZ herald is as the time wrote about this 6 months ago. Aside from how poor form I think it is to publicly denounce a competitor rag, the fact that nothing kicked off from their article, suggests that the NZ herald's reach / influence is larger than the Times ... Don't think I would be in a hurry to promote that.

I have no doubt we will become the directors of our own entertainment once the platform and technology is available. The option to choose commentary would be great as I much prefer the NZ Commentary to the Australian one.

It appears to be a giant fuck up doesn't it.

Can't say I have heard any sort of alternative that makes this concept work without impacting something negatively.

If the report wasn’t true, then there would be firm and insistent denials, but there aren’t any.

It was always a proposal, and it was never publicly released by World Rugby.

I do have some sympathy in that regard, as the way the process works is they start with a draft, take feedback into account, circulate another draft, and repeat as many times as necessary until you have an agreeable outcome. There's a pretty strict constitution which requires votes etc. on such issues.

There was no indication that WR were intending to bypass that process.

So the cake has been taken out of the oven way too early, and people are surprised it's a fucking mess.

It's not how long it's been cooking, it's the cooks and they're cooking by committee.

    Fixed it for you.

Yeah if it was a process, why weren't the Georgian RFU in it? If it was just press and players up in arms, I could say fair enough one of the many proposals leaked. I've seen that a lot. But when the Georgian Rugby head knows nothing about it? It stinks

with our squad of 50 All Blacks as per end of last year could the NZRFU still go ahead and organise official tests with the likes of PI teams and other tier two teams?

We could schedule them midweek. Like we should've against Japan.

Rugby league is loving it. I see a triple header has been booked featuring all of the PI teams for November.

Tonga has a huge wave to ride here, I hope they manage to surf it wisely.
