    Though my eight best friends, my wife and I are French, we went to Cardiff this week end to watch the game between Wales and England. Great atmosphere, beautiful weather, fantastic singing from both English and Welsh supporters and a frantic finish by the men in red. It was the most emotional match I have watched live so far and it brought tears in my eyes and goose pimples on my arms. A great day to remember.

    The Principality Stadium on match day is a pretty awesome sight/experience isn't it? Even this Englishman had the hairs on the back of his neck standing up when the Welsh Anthem was being belted out. The partisanship of the crowd is something to behold (and I wish we had it to that extent at Twickenham). The roars that greeted anything minutely positive (such as not fucking something up) from a Welsh perspective were huge.

    Shit beer though.

    It's brains YOU want ... in your backline ๐Ÿ˜›

    That said, amazing stadium. I was there for the 2005 centennial test, and they were far and away the politest bunch of supporters I've ever sat in. Perhaps before their success started.

    Also, I'm halfway through this. Gats comes off as a decent rugby loving dude so far. A slightly revisionist history perspective I suspect, but relaly interesting to hear someone who has acheived so much speak so frankly for so long.

    @nzzp Funnily enough, I am a fan of Brains SA Bitter but at the stadium they just sell the fizzy imitation. Luckily my mate had a hip flask of home made blackberry vodka. Got hosted to a nice lunch at a place called The Park House before the match, nice grub, nice wine and good company, surrounded by Taffs but all good guys (and girl). The Welshmen we were sitting next to were all gents to a man as well.

    Great day.
    Shit beer (as mentioned - but not so in the pubs).
    Piss poor result.

    Not to everyone's taste but his analysis is good, IMO. Simply wear England out, cos their defence is bloody hard work & have players in the back three who are actually used to playing there.

    Interesting stat Hadleigh Parkes most metres in the game

    Also true of a knackered England haha

    this has the dubious distinction of being THE worst beer I've ever tasted. 3.6%. What THE FUCK is the point of it ? the fucken Welsh bar in Wellington ( since closed ) stung me for 10$ for it about a decade ago too. That'll teach me to try and be culturally sensitive and try new things.

    In proper draught form - ie gravity served from the barrel - it is 4.2% abv and is a lovely beer. In shit keg form I don't know how piss weak it is but I do know it tastes of fox piss on twiglets.

    @Catogrande I have not had the joy of either but to @MN5s point about ABV I can certainly say that one thing I will really miss about the UK is the choice of ales under 4% that are very drinkable (and in many cases quite pleasant). I am going to find it annoying going back to a beer drinking culture based around getting pissed over having a thirst quenching social imbibe.

    @MN5 @Crucial

    Went skiing in France earlier this year with a bunch of lads. Ordered 5 small beers of the special stuff. Billy Big Bollocks says โ€œNo. make those largeโ€. Result four rounds later, all pissed to the wide with BBB throwing up. Should have read the label. 7% abv. He drank very little all week after that. Nice stuff by the way, St Stephanus.

    The opposite. When in poncey London pubs I end up seeking out something crafty and interesting that is probably too high in % (and price) to be wandering the streets after.
    It's more when driving around being a tourist or spending an afternoon in a favourite country pub I am quite happy to sink a few pints with food and drive home.
    7% hammers you quickly. You can only process around 3.5% per 500ml per hour. Keep piling it in and it goes straight to the bloodstream.

    @Crucial
    Yeah I do agree actually. My session beer strength (and by that I mean ale, lager has different rules) used to be around the 4.4% mark but now I find that if I want to sink a few pints I want something a little less โ€œchewyโ€.

    Depends for me. If I'm drinking lager type beer then I like something above 5%, but bitter (ale) i much prefer something that's more of a session ale and 3.8%-4.2% is my favoured window. Anything much above that and it gets too fruity and cloying for me.

    Plus I get pissed too easy.

    Wales squad named for Scotland match on Saturday

    Wales XV:
    Williams (Saracens), North (Ospreys), J Davies (Scarlets), Parkes (Scarlets), Adams (Worcester); Anscombe (Cardiff Blues), Davies (Scarlets)
    Evans (Scarlets), Owens (Scarlets), Francis (Exeter Chiefs), Beard (Ospreys), Jones (Ospreys, capt), Navidi (Cardiff Blues), Tipuric (Ospreys), Moriarty (Dragons)

    Replacements:
    Dee (Dragons), Smith (Ospreys), Lewis (Cardiff Blues), Ball (Scarlets), Wainwright (Dragons)
    Davies (Ospreys), Biggar (Northampton), Watkin (Ospreys)

    Beard in for Hill, Ball to the bench.

    This is the important one for Wales.

    Realistically wins against England and Ireland weren't expected prior to the start of the tournament but dispatching Scotland certainly was.

    And with Scotland playing very averagely thus far it will be a massive disappointment if we can't go to Murrayfield and set up a Grand Slam decider against Ireland on the 16th.

    Wales by 8-11
