Black Caps v India

Good win but I feel it should have been more comfortable.
We dished up some absolute dross at times with the ball, especially against the new batsmen. I think 3 or 4 of their guys hit their first ball for 6. Usually taking a wicket slows the run rate down, but we let the Indians off the hook by bowling pies to the new fullas, and they certainly didn’t need a second invitation...
Good to see Kuggelijn getting it through in the late 140’s too. He was really hurrying them up in his second spell.
Seifert is pretty untidy behind the stumps isn’t he, he’s always good for a fumble or 5.

Glad we got the win, but fucking hell there was some ugly cricket on display. Real agricultural shots, and CdG's wicket was ludicrous. Why he even went for that when it was so wide. We were fortunate the Indian fielding wasn't great, some of our shot selection was diabolical. Indians nearly snatched the win, too because some of our bowling was pie cart. Sigh. (I did laugh at the wicket where the bat went flying one way and the ball went the other. Glad no one got a bat to the head.)

Was reflecting over the weekend how enjoyable this Indian tour here has been. I've probably enjoyed it more than most other tours - despite the fact that they have outclassed us on a number of occasions. They have done it playing good cricket without being absolute muppets.
Their fans are sensational, just love cricket and seeing their heroes (MS Dhoni at Eden Park anyone?) the atmospheres at the grounds have been as good as you get, and it's been thoroughly enjoyable.
So, all in all, thanks India and come back soon. Was good fun.

@nzzp I agree, it was a pity Kohli wasn't here for the full tour. But things may have panned out differently if he was - he definitely adds an edge to the team with his leadership and expectations around performing. Still a wee bit salty we didn't fire many shots against them in the ODI's, but that's on us and India put us under a lot of pressure.
Fark I thought last night was going to one of those snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!
Question, is Seifert showing enough to be considered on his batting alone? I've heard a few pundits rate his keeping, but he seems pretty bloody raw and that'll surely hold him back longer term?

I agree. And yeah the atmosphere was incredible at Eden Park. Was deafening when Dhoni walked out.
I think we learnt a lot from this tour, far more beneficial than just smashing Sri Lanka and the Bangles.
We still have a problem finding Guppy a partner. Munro confirmed what we all knew, that he will smack the shit teams but get found out against the better sides, which doesn't help us win a WC. Seifert showed some potential in the T20s, but that is a completely different ballgame to ODIs.
We have some depth in the bowling stocks, and I hope Henry's performances has secured him the new ball alongside Boult. Ferguson was up and down, but his extra pace can be a real point of difference against the middle/lower order.
Latham showed good form in the middle order so should stay there, Nicholls showed promise opening and is probably worth a shot to avoid exposing Kane too early against the new ball.
Neesh showed his class with the bat, but not so much the ball.
Based on this tour my A-team would be:
- Guptill
- Nicholls
- Williamson
- Taylor
- Latham
- Neesham
- CdG
- Santner
- Henry
- Ferguson
- Boult
I think 7 is the biggest question mark. Anderson would fill that gap but can't seem to stay fit. CdG found a bit of form in the T20s so is probably still the best bet there. Probably a bit high for the likes of Bracewell despite his improvements with the bat, and our tail is already long enough.

Definitely. He along with Will Young I would rate as the 2 best all-round batsmen in NZ not currently in the NZ test team (or ODI team). His FC batting is really quite good. His white ball batting is surprisingly not as good as his FC batting, yet. But, with his fast hands, once he masters white ball batting - he'll be very good. But I wouldn't bank on him being a world cup saviour at the last minute. It would be a hail mary. His history has actually shown him to be a slow adjuster as he moves up the levels. (He was the best player of his age group, and a schoolboy star but stunk for NZ U19s, he was initally was poor for ND, he was initially only OKish for NZ).
Seifert has had a lot of roles at ND. keeper, specialist middle order bat. Even opened in both red-ball and white-ball. His early career was fairly medioce though, especially for a guy with his reputation coming through youth cricket.
I really started to take notice of him finally delivering on potential on an NZA tour of India about 2 years ago. It was a batting apocalypse in spinning conditions for NZ but Seifert was the only one to perform (albit "performed" on that tour meant being 30 or 40 not out while all around him collapsed). No video of that tour though, just scorecards.

@No-Quarter I like that line up. I hope Ish makes the squad over Astle as I feel the latter is nowhere near as threatening with the ball, but definitely has the edge with batting. But even then I wouldn't expect them to get much game time.
Maybe there needs to be pressure on Kane to add a few overs of spin alongside Santer so we have two spin options in our top 11. Surely (surely!) English conditions aren't going to be overly spin friendly... unless you have a legit international quality spinner... which we don't.

I remember he got 50 odd batting at 11. He's no fucken Chris Martin that's for sure.
Boult is just a fucking great guy. He tries to always play at least one game for his club every year.
Last season it was against Tga Boys College. Magic experience for those lads. This year a century against Te Puke

@Baron-Silas-Greenback that is really cool. Hadn't heard that before... which makes it even cooler as I bet he isn't interested in telling people about it. Fark, you'd be equal parts excited and terrified facing him!

That was a ripper of a game of cricket, i really enjoyed it. Shit day to be a bowler though.
That said, Yadav was fucking fun to watch, it's an impressive bag of tricks he's got. Poor old Hard Dick, some muppet drops an absolute sitter. He get's smoked for 6. Then has a the batsman tangled with a short one, and it still goes for 4. No wonder he gave that yell when he took the catch.

Safe to say at club level he bowls within himself and bats above himself....
...unless some little snot smashes him through covers for 4.. then he becomes a fast bowler again... -

Knowing my skills I'd probably make him look like Bradman.

I can tell you thing.. Boult will be STOKED to get a century on the clubs honor board...
When you are international player you don't get to brag really about your international accomplishments.. otherwise you are a fucking knob. But at club level trashing your club mates and pointing to your century on the honors boards is a rite of passage. -
