Apart from Southee and BJ (plus a little cameo from Taylor) that was a fucking shit batting effort. All out for 178.

Only 4 batsmen made double figures.

I think it's very safe to say Southee has won cricket today. Great work all round so far son.

Be good to see the back of them tonight while it is still moving around. Who knows what the pitch will be like tomorrow?

Given that spin is pretty much a waste of time there, batting last probably won't worry them.

And she’s all over, Boult has 6/4 this morning (6/30 overall), including 5 in 11 balls.

    Simply incredible!

Now come on batters, time to back up that brilliant bowling spell.

Hopefully we can score 300 plus in this innings. We should know what to expect now. Just make sure we see off Lakmal.

300 would be awesome, but with a lead of 74, anything over 220 will probably be enough.

Incredible stuff to log on and take in.... what a spell. I was seriously worried we'd be looking at a decent deficit. At least this test is guaranteed a result now too.

Did Boult have somewhere else to be today? That's quite the spell.

Lankan tailenders weren't sure what the wooden thing they were holding was for, so decided to wave it around their shoulders while sticking their legs in front of that cute wood stack thingy to stop the ball hitting it.

    Some godawful leaves for lbw.

Good start by the openers. I know that Raval will probably get out shortly after lunch, but even so, they've done a great job taking the shine off the new ball and taking the edge off the opening bowlers.

Great stuff by Jeet and Tom to bat through the middle session to get us to 117/0 with a lead of 191. Jeet 72. Tom 40

Now, we’re all sure to thinking the same thing about one of these chaps and the position he is in, but no one mention it... please.

An outstanding performance from the Black Caps so far today. 118-0, 192 runs ahead.

    Raval gone for 74.

Most consistent cricketer I've ever seen if that makes sense. His run of 'decent' scores with few shit scores and no massive scores is pretty weird.

Weird alright. But good weird. The big score will come, no doubt about it.
As a NZ opening batsmen he is exactly what we’ve been needing since Rigor gave it away.

I'll take a century opening stand everytime even if it means Raval doesn't move on to 100 himself. These two openers are not such that one will dominate the scoring to an extent the other doesn't get a decent start and neother will score so fast as to obviate the blunting of the new ball
