@crucial cheers, you missed one try, good read otherwise.

Had already said my piece waffled on about that one further back in the thread....

Huge respect for AAC but surely that ship sailed?

It is worth repeating as it applies to this selection, too

You see mad eye hooper bursting a gut to limit beaudy getting towards the goal posts, the winger just leave him to it. He maybe a knob but he puts in a hundred every time

After he has retired, that will be my abiding memory of him. Sprinting to chase a back he has no hope of catching but never giving up.

    that is delicious!!

We're not shit, we just don't cheat like they do!!

I always enjoy a "let's look at one team" breakdown of all the "illegalities" they get away with. It just means your team won. Again.

Time to scrap the 3 tests against Australia, they just don't deserve it.

Hooper and Foley aren't very good, but by christ you can't fault their effort, those two give it absolutely everything every test, and never quit.

Dempsey getting a bit of stick on here and in other places for the BB try.

When I played Blindside flanker, way back admitedly, I absolutely broke to the open side as quickly as possible depending on the "break" call.

Defences have changed in 20 years, they don't chase rucks like I did, but I doubt that much from a scrum? Why would you stay blind when the ball has been passed open to the actual first-five?

Mistakes or mis-reads are allowed to happen if the opposition work it (or disgiuse it) well.

The pass from BB to Ioane was pure sex.

I had been pointing out the way that Australia follow a ‘standard’ defensive pattern which we exploited beautifully. (Pretty much the same as you have said).
Now watch the ABs after most rucks or scrums. They keep width and options no matter where the ball goes to start with. At the very least they keep an eye on the possibilities while not over committing.
BTW, the moment the ball went back to BB instead of to SBW, Dempsey’s run to the open was wasted.
I would be critical of the ABs if they were so easily manipulated as well.
Twice in the game we were able to use their over commitment to a standard defence against them.

Bingo. Foley maybe can't reach the peaks that some flyhalves can, and has come under particular stick in parts of Australia for not being as good as Quade.

But when I see Foley dive on the ball as the AB was chasing through, risking an accidental knee to the head or ribs, I'm comfortable in the knowledge that Quade Fucking Cooper wouldn't risk that.

When Foley looks up and sees no options but to go into contact, I'm smirking with the understanding that QFC would throw a hospital pass to someone in a shittier position.

When some big shunt needs tackling at the line, I know Foley will go in around the hips or knees most times, and even if he doesn't make that tackle - even if he's going to get pushed into the floor by a palm on his shoulder, he's not going to stand up and cop a palm in the face while being a completely ineffectual dipshit like Quade "Run to Melbourne Because BBBT Hates Me" Cooper.

Also @Crucial take your points about Dempsey's movement. He probably thought a 1-on-1 between the wingers was cover enough. His mistake was not tracking Squires, IMHO. Mark your opposite seems pretty simple.

Haven't read the rest of the thread, bit of catching up to do after jetlag. Thought I'd post my thoughts.

Well, fuck, Savea. Wow! Absolutely brilliant performance, ridiculously fucking busy and being extremely effective while doing it. Soooo much better than when he used to just look busy. Some stellar defensive plays from him and Taylor, plus that sweet save by Ioane.

How much of a beast does BFA look at the moment? His defence on the wing is invaluable too. Timing things perfectly.

Someone was saying Read didn't put in any hits - that's not what I saw in the first half.

Laulala looked bloody good, great to see. Really strong scrumming.

Loved Todd when he came on, Savea and him complimented each other really well and seemed to be in each other's pockets. How good was the tackle on Folau for the BFA intercept?

Thought Barrett controlled the game really well for the most part, nice cameo from Mounga too.

Poite is fucken shit eh? Ignores everything and then once in a while makes a really bizarre call.

What is more concerning is Phil Kearns saying that he AND World Rugby are sick of the Referees giving the All Blacks a free ride! Who at World Rugby has been making these comments, have they been made public?? Maybe Gosper said it to Phil when in Australia a few weeks back??

I'd imagine Foley wouldn't make you nervous about leaving valuables out in the open in the locker room either

I think with world rugby he didn't mean the (former) IRB but the "rugby world" (every country bar NZ).
The whining mentality in Aussie rugby is coming from all places, the coach, the commentators (except Clarke, who is usually very gracious) and the fans (see GAGR - used to be the Shiggins one-man-crazefest, now there's a few of them). SAD!

I'm old enough to still be bitter about a match in the early naughties where Oz won after the halfback (probably George) ran straight through our fringe ruck defence for what looked like a soft try, and was the decisive score. On replay an Oz forward (some skilled dark artist like Finnegan) 'missed' the clear out and 'momentum' carried him into the path of our pillar.
    What goes around comes around.
