Ugh. Stupid media. Nigel didn't cost us the game. Us gifting the Boks at least two of their tries, BB not being able to hit the side of a barn with his goalkicking, and the lack of cool heads embracing the perfect setup for a DMac droppie lost us the game.
technically, he did hit the side of the barn, twice, the ball just bounced away from the entrance

Watching the press conference Hansen and Foster aren't blaming the ref or missed goal kicks. Conceding 36 pts and 5 tries was the losing of the test.
Did anyone ask why no drop goal?
The post match show was terrible. Sumo, Cully and Batsey all so reluctant to criticise any players in fear of pissing off their “mates”

@nzzp What are Sky doing about it? It's almost as though they encourage this type of commentator - the one who has to question everything even though he is wrong most of the time. JK is similar on The Breakdown. The smug piston wristed gibbon is rude, talks over people especially Jim Kayes and often talks total nonsense.

Gives insight into his coaching...

What is this ref blunder the herald speak of?
I don't want to read from that piece of shit website/paper. Removed them ages ago from my bookmarks.
I find recall anything at the time in the match, maybe I was typing a TSF post at the time .....?
They claim in his headset the AR said something like 'Green 8 and 9 offside' when the ABs were hammering away. Hence, an easy 3 (if you aren't BB), and a win.
Right.
So good realistic RWC knockout prep. Tight finish, ref probably won't decide it for you ....
(Slight tangent. I don't like current refereeing applications where all teams are allowed to be 1m offside at every ruck, until, it gets to a few meres from the tryline and suddenly that white line cant have a toe cross it**. It's too easy to score once you get close )**
Really? Tell fhe Bokke defence that...

I still think S Barrett is a luxury to have on the bench when both BBBR and Whitelock are playing. Both starting locks will play the 80 mins so Barrett will only go to lock in the event of an injury. At the moment he is replacing Squire at 6.
He’s not a luxury, more insurance. I wouldn’t like the fact that if one of said locks go down early that we are playing with some make shift blindside at lock.
Barrett has played well as a backup blindside when he’s come on. His presence at lineout time has helped us win opposition ball. Has a high work rate in support that has lead to tries.

That's because Owen's was relaxed on it. That's why I said I was going off on a tangent.

couldnt sleep after that. must say you guys are taking this remarkably well.
Even with the AB's "our own harshest critics" party line, and given the dealing with millenials thing, and the never losign thing, and super-wise guru Hansen having been in the job for eons, I wonder if he ever really brings the fucken hammer down.
"Jordie, you can go sit in the fucken stands next week, this isn't some tenured succession rite that's your divine right by virtue of your fucken bloodline. Beaudy, you and DMac can decide who wants to sit on the end of the fucken bench and pray you're the fucken fullback impact sub for 20 minutes cos both you helter skelter rudderless nimrods are about 10 million rungs below Ben Smith. Rieko and Wais to the wings.
"TJ, you got ran down by a fucking number 8. Yes, a fucking big fat forward. Go take a lap. Where's your cool hongi now fluffybunny?
"When I saw a waiting pod of Karl T, Pat T and Ofa I turned to Fozzie and said 'fuck me we're gonna fucken lose this.' If 3 Auckland Blues gather within a radius of 5 metres it's basic physics that you instantly have an inescapable Bermuda Triangle of fluffybunnies into which the hopes and dreams of a nation will suddenly vanish and die. I'm half of a mind to buy the whole Blues franchise just to shoot the fucking thing into space. Maybe biff it on Musk's next rocket to fucking Mars. Even the Martian microbe XV might hold onto the fucken ball more often than Ofa does. And those little microbe fluffybunnies don't even have fucken arms or legs
"Oh, one last thing, Richie is currently en route here in his chopper. He said he is going to confiscate ALL last nights test caps and burn them on a ceremonial fucking pyre. He said he is then going to use his chopper rotors to decapitate, in his words, 'the fluffybunny in the 10 jersey'. Richard Hugh Mccaw did not play through 280 test match wins with a loose bolt in his foot so some precious back fluffybunny could casually shank 4 piss-easy kicks on his home fucking ground vs the fucking boks."
You have a calling. Sports humor section or something. Seriously funny.

Totally agree, he does well in the lock/6 cover position. I think our bigger problem is that he should stay there and one of the starting locks should be replaced (ala Ardie Savea to Matt Todd) when one of BBBR or SW are out. Who is that lock? I don't think we've found them yet, and Romano is getting old.
The only other idea is to trial Hemopo (Maybe even Frizell) who may be able to do the same role, but either way they are both covering lock/six. Off the bench, I think Barrett has been superb.

@frank he's played 66 tests for the AB's and his kicking has cost us how many?
Can't see them changing too much TBH.
Beauden's been kicking alright this year hasn't he?
When he first came on the scene he was deadly accurate.
The past couple of years he wavered a bit - but, this year he seemed like he was back to being pretty good. I can't remember him having too many bad games off the tee?
Lets hope that last night doesn't knock his confidence, because I'm doubtful that we're going to want to play Jordie or DMac in the 15 jersey, simply because Beauden has a few off nights.
For what it's worth, I never expected them to switch kickers during the match. With all the training and sports psychology these guys are exposed to these days, you'd expect them to pretty much go through their routines and every kick to be a 99% independent event.
Switching kickers would be a bit like a pro golfer storming off the course after making double bogey on the first hole.
-
Then there is a problem with the psychology, because as Hansen said last night in the presser, it's a team game. Personally, I think all players should be honest enough with themselves to say, "X is generally a higher percentage kicker than me anyway, and tonight I'm not quite hitting them right enough, so away they go".
And, that's certainly true of anyone in the leadership group, which Barrett must be, not to mention Read of course.
-
As the dust settles, there's not much more to do than stomp up and down and pout and frown about our goal kicking last night.
BB should stay at 10, and handing over kicking duties ensures Dmac or JB must start, that's not ideal. Neither is changing kickers mid game.
Despite the mantra that goal kicking doesn't lose games, kicks slightly in front need to go over, fuck the last one to tie things up at least!
But there's no easy fix but for some more coaching, eh Beauden?
-
@gt12 But at what point would you bail?
When he lined up that last kick I think he had 2/5 and one had hit the post. Normally you'd hope to have 4/5, but 3/5 isn't a disaster.
He's on his home ground and nine times out of ten he's going to make that last kick.
I don't think you want your key play maker wetting his pants just because of a bit of adversity.
