Some awesome tries in this game. Mo'unga's was spectacular, BFA's brilliant, and Scott Barrett's came from a fantastic passage of play where forwards seemed to think they were backs.
Good first hit-out from Read. There's hope!
I just would like to know which dipshit took out Crotty without the ball in a late tackle, making Crotts leave the paddock prematurely. I understand he was taken off as a precaution, but still.
Hats off for the Crockzilla, who had to play a 75-minute shift. Hope Moody is okay.

Todd is also six years older. He didn't get picked for the ABs until he was Savea's current age.
Since then Todd has got better, but is now unlikely to improve much more. Savea might well improve considerably in the way Todd did.
In a close call you'd always go with the younger.
Fuck no. Not for the All Blacks and especially not with European checkbooks abounding!

Bullshit, I’d go with the better player, age is irrelevant

One more thing.... hung around to watch the great man crockzilla’s presentation, what an absolute fucking legend.
The whole time through whilst sumo Stevenson was giving his tribute and Wyatt being a humble gracious fluffybunny and thanking the fans and everyone else fuckwit Justin Marshall stands there in the front row with a chick standing in front of him brushing his face with a make up brush waiting for his next bit of camera time.
Great player, shit bloke.

You should have thrown a copy of 'Laws of the Game' at him.

@sammyc Sure, go for the better. But if it is a toss-up?
The selectors have consistently picked on promise for years now, and seem to get it right more often than not (Sam Cane's elevation raised eyebrows because he was so young, you'll remember.)
By the way, I'd have picked Todd ahead of Ardie this year. I just don't think that the selectors are irrational, and actually I trust their judgement. (That dropped ball stat really bothers me, and I'd want to know if it's indicative or just a blip.)

Just back from the game/pub. Great night out
Bryn hall was my player of the game, why does he not get considered for the ABs? ..Mo’unga and Crotty close behind.
Was Liam squire playing? Totally anonymous when the highlanders needed him.
There’s a noticeable drop off in organisation and control when Hall goes off. He’s been a standout all season and extremely glad he’s resigned.
Thought Squire was good in the first half particularly when the ball hit the deck. Very prominent at ruck time. But you’re right because I didn’t notice him in the 2nd 40 at all, other than a close up when the commentators thought he was being subbed off.
-
A few random thoughts:
-
Sumo's overenthusiasm really started to wrack me off after a while;
-
I thought Squire was pretty good in first, One excellent turnover, and quite gnarly on defence;
-
Mo'unga has a very good turn of speed. Up there with Benda over 20 by the look of it;
-
Barrett (S) seemed quiet in first; and
-
Clan's defence reminded me of a sieve.
I think Savea (A) is a fair bit quicker than Todd. Can imagine the selectors liking that after 60 when things typically get a bit looser.
Has anyone heard how Moody's knee is?

@pakman I don't think Squire's the answer at 6. He'd be better at no.8 galloping down the tram lines and offloading to wingers or his insides.
Mounga's going well and it's great to have him competing with DMac for no.2 first five.
On A. Savea, even as a Hurricanes supporter I don't rate him. I'd have Todd in the ABs ahead of him and tell Taufua to get ready to play 6, 7, and 8 off the bench if needed. I can't help the feeling Savea's a bit of a glory hunter.
The Highlanders' game plan of kicking away possessing works if you make your tackles, but the last two games it's gone horribly wrong.
