Fitting end to the 49ers v Cowboys, sorry Wallabies and Ireland.

No way OZ could be upset with that last call. Foley go to ground you numbskull. Patience was needed. You were building nicely. Didn’t you watch ABs v Ireland in 2013...

Pity that Van Der Flier was injured. He's worth watching. Tremendous talent.

I’ll give the TMO some credit at the end there. You got the feeling that even after Frenchie heard the ruling and agreed with it that said Frenchie would still play the lineout....

Haha these Aust commentators are terrible. Just one long whinge session.

You should check out the roar forum. Ref was poor, but it certainly wasn't the cause of the wallabies loss. They just can't deal with a bore a thon Irish team

So the Irish keep the Raeburn Shield and the Argies get the first challenge. We're next after that on 17 November.

Haha, you could see he didn't trust the erratic Frenchman so made sure he spelt it out as clearly as he could.

No one should have any issues with the TMO call at the end.

Joe Powell's shitfull passing earlier in Ireland's 22 killed the Wallabies momentum. How can scrum halves not be able to pass at this level?

Wallabies only have themselves to blame. They were the better team in the 2nd 40 but didn't have the composure to finish the job. I really think the whole emotional response to calls that go against them has an impact on them mentally and they get flustered. Cheika certainly leads the way there but you can see it creeping into some of the senior players mentality as well.

Was Phipps injured? He was actually having an OK game, thought it strange he went off.

I agree. Teams that constantly complain and argue with the ref aren't focused on what they should be, which is playing the game and controlling what they can control.

This has been an issue with the Aussies for years though. I can remember it being an issue for the Wallabies since at least 2011.

@damo I can't see how retired players, particularly Fox Sports commentators, and a succession of coaches haven't engendered a victim mentality. It looks like a self fulfilling prophecy when it all falls apart.

The irony is they look dangerous. Just need to be patient and composed.

You should have heard the dross the Irish commentators served up on Sky UK

Make Miles Harrison and Stuart Barnes sound eloquent and learned.

Loved it at the TMO call at the end where the commentators are saying it was definite that the ball wasn't touched. Why not say what the TMO did which was it wasn't clear and obvious. You couldn't tell anything.

Ireland are the boa constrictor of world rugby. At first you are like “guys, come watch this snake slowly squeeze the life out a wallaby”. But then after the first time it’s just like watching paint dry and you’re not going to buy the DVD “10 greatest boa constrictor kills”.

I think Ireland have reached a peak. They have basically employed the same gameplay for the last 8 years or so and they are masters at it. But it hardly ever leads to blow out victories against top teams and it’s hopeless if they have to play catch up.

Unless they find some new tricks in the next 12 months, sides will know what they are up against. And they can’t win without Sexton either I don’t think.

@billy-tell In fairness, we've just won a series in Australia without Best, Henderson, O'Brien, Van der Flier, Ruddock and Farrell, with Leavy, Ringrose, Conway, Carberry and today O'Mahony missing serious chunks of the series.

That shows serious depth and while our attacking play has been stunted, I reckon getting a few of those names (Ringrose and Leavy in particular) back into the team at 100% will add a lot. Having no 13 for two thirds of this tour hurt us a lot.

Part of keeping things tight was a counter to Australias ground game. Line breaks and outside breaks are great to watch but against this Oz side, a split seconds isolation will lead to a turnover 9 times out of 10 so keeping things tight ensured we controlled possession.

I don't think our last 3 games against the ABs have lacked attacking endeavour and recent games against South Africa and Argentina didn't either. We're certainly not the best attacking side in world rugby but I don't think we're as one dimensional as you're suggesting.

Also, Carberry has led us to crucial victories over the ABs and England in the last few years. Sexton is important but not as crucial as Murray when you look at the back up.

    @munstergreen

I suppose every team always has injuries. NZ notably without Retallick and Read.

We see if you can go better yet but in any case you will have to beat either NZ or SA away from Dublin to reach that world cup semi.

November should hopefully be a good game. A real test for NZ against such a well-drilled side.
