Goodhue 12, ALB 13 is the best we can hope for.

I hope Crotty will be fit and that we'll see a return to the successful 2016 midfield line-up with a Crotty-ALB, or a Crotty-Goodhue combo. Ngani maybe for the 3rd test.

We didnt' miss SBW in 2016.

If he'd stayed on teh field last year, we'd have won the Lions tour.

Ditto B Smith. Our midfield wound up with debutantes.

I don't think we'd have won if SBW was on the field but if we'd had 15 players on the field. Slight difference. It's having a man less on the field that cost us; not that that man was SBW.

Thoughts on the third test then? Laumape on his second test (after debuting in No 2 the week before), and ALB only 12 tests into his career. Lack of experience and combination

    1. Ngani Laumape (1)
    2. Anton Lienert-Brown (12)

@nzzp Depends on the results of the first two tests. If we've won both, we can take more risks for the 3rd. Either Laumape-ALB or Laumape-Crotty (to reduce the risk).

I reckon Goodhue would be very good at 12, has the size and skills to play that hard running 12 that we usually have, but if they want a hard running 12, then you have Laumape who actually plays there....although Goodhue is a better defender.

Laumape is overrated. His distribution isn't up to it at test level. Goodhue has the best combination of physicality, distribution, and defence, with SBW out.

    @stargazer damn. He's a unit, and we'll miss him.

    sad face.

Even if he's not in top form, opponents like the French revere guys with his reputation (trying hard not to say 'aura' here). He'll be a loss for that alone.

@stargazer Crotty will be fit for about 30 minutes then will get injured and need a replacement.

@tim Agreed. He is a bit of a one trick pony and I hope the selectors are looking beyond him for the WC. Rip shit and bust incarnate.

@broughie although our coaches do seem to like someone with that trick at 12.

@duluth What’s Nonu up to. He would slot in nicely.

He's a very solid player but I agree, I was hoping they'd work on that part of his game like they did with Nonu but he hasn't really shown much improvement there.

It took Nonu like 7 years to get there though, lets give him some time aye?

TBF, Nonu took a number of years before he was close to being a fixture in our backline.

I remember there were always arguments on here about why they persevered with him (even when he was a bit part player on the wing) shows how much most of us knew huh 🙂

Oh of course, I'm a massive fan and see huge potential in him. But he's not there yet, and for this series Goodhue-ALB makes more sense.

Again as said previously we have to look for someone to nullify the big Bastardreau at 13, which is why Laumape fits the bill nicely. Goodhue/Laumape for mine - Crotty will be taken out in the first 5 secs.
