Crusaders vs. Hurricanes

Is there a good argument to play Mounga at 10 for the ABs when the weather dictates the gameplan? BB could move to 15.
AB selectors have always backed their number one pick at 10 to play all conditions but maybe that should be thought about? It does signal the gameplan, but in poor weather it is pretty obvious anyway.

Of the AB non-selections - I think George Bridge made the biggest statement, followed up by a couple of nice busts from Savea elder. Both completely outplayed BLAM who was disappointing. I thought
Of the newbies - was impressed by Blackadder his energy and workrate in the conditions added some punch, Lousi has the attributes and at this stage just has to keep working hard, and for mine, I rate Makalio, think he could be one to watch.
Of the ABs named - think the biggest statement was made by Mo'unga, directed play nicely and didn;t go into his shell, but kept on pressing. Goodhue as well added some power to midfield, and Laumape tried his heart out. The pimply giraffe was a mixed bag, better in tghe 2nd half.
Disappointing - Riccitelli, Havili, B Barrett.
Invisible - BLAMGood post Trooper.
Not disagreeing about Laumape's effort (and am fanboi) but thought Saders contained him pretty well.

Canes coaches need to have a rethink about their approach. Because the Canes have looked out of sorts most of this year. Its just not clicking. They weren't great this game especially the backs. It was another bumbling display.
And West was awful when he came on. JGB is a bit slow but I would still prefer him. West still being selected maybe reflects a faulty coaches mindset where they believe rare flashes of brilliance can win games as opposed to sound sensible rugby. Like good defense and good line clearing.

@rancid-schnitzel nice straw man
Not sure it's that much of a straw man ... it's @Canerbry after all ...

All of the winning has disguised a lack of fluency. Canes will need to sort this out or we will get found out again soon

Maybe a loss last week would have helped this week.

On a night like this, where the Crusaders showed mastery of the conditions, why would Christchurch want to build a covered stadium and turn every game into a dry weather track meet?
So the fans don't drown/catch hypothermia/stay in the pub?
Maybe cover the fans and leave the players exposed?
I'd agree with this. It's a winter game after all and we need to be able to see players that can make good decisions and execute well in those conditions. Ably supported by coaching staff that modify their game plans to account.

Just back from the game/pub
Best crusaders performance of the season, total dominance up front right from the start
Anyone still picking Lousi as an all black lock? Totally outplayed by no name Quentin Strange?
Ricci ricci ricci too small and ineffective.
Ardie Savea spent most of the game doing sweet fuck all.
George bridge the best winger on the field. Ben Lam a flat track bully
Absolutely awesome atmosphere at the game.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves @Chris-B @Canerbry @Wally @SammyC it was only the Canes.
Scrappy sort of game was to be expected, but I was really impressed with our tight 5. Thought Scotty Barrett stepped it up a notch. Taylor is a real leader in this team now.
Our midfield were excellent defensively and our 9/10 out performed their AB counterparts.
I hope Seta is on standby for an AB callup should one of our midfield/wingers get crook. He’s matured as player and is as safe as houses whilst knowing how to break a game open.

Seems like it was comprehensive enough for most of you fluffybunnies to stop the moaning about the ref then?
Yes, I think so,
I was quite angsty about some decisions but in the end it was irrelevant, the better team by far won.

Best moment of the night was Ihaia West’s ridiculous clearing kick that didn’t even make it out of the in goal. The whole crowd laughed so hard
Not the worst I've seen. A loose forward mate took it upon himself to put in a clearing kick from our 22 - managed to lose ground. We all laughed.

He was. But you were quoting Caners (he says scrambling... )

So the Canes slapped the Saders in Wellington, and the Saders slapped the Canes in Christchurch.
1-1, with the finals to come. Home advantage is going to he crucial.
-
@no-quarter Having most of our best players is going to be crucial!
-
@Chris-B you had a pretty decent team in Welly didn't you? Though no Mo'unga, which seems key given the step down after him.
