Booth only came in last few minutes, it was Christie who was awful. Booth made a real difference.

Outside of the silly errors, shit line out, random passes to no one and muddled running lines, I think the real problem was tackling. Scrambling defence was great but the canes were totally weak individually in the tackle. Not one boomfa, No one was smashed or even slightly pushed back. It was really poor.

Still when you have the backs the canes have, and a half back that just passes the ball it rains tries

Not unexpected in a long comp when the players know that the game is a banker and they should be able to turn on for a short period and take 5 points. Need to pick your moments for the big efforts in this comp (especially with the derby games)

Jamie Nutbrown looks in his 50s.

It must be a Canterbury thing. They always have guys who look old for their age.

    Whitelock syndrome

Errmmm...isn't Nutbrown from BOP and the Whitelocks from Manawatu...?

    Nutbrown is from Christchurch

Pulled off his step on his first run, took some heavy contact and don’t break. Great cheer from the crowd when he came on.

    Didn’t do a lot, but a start.

Savea had a very good game.

Yep, they have swapped. Ardie was terrible, and Julian had a high work rate, looked trim and was bowling people over. Not quite his old pace yet, but he looked good to me.

Wow. Julian must be trying to get himself back in the AB frame after all

I kept napping off but from what I could tell we really misses Laumapes penetration in the centres, I'm guessing he is just being rested?

You were fine when you had the ball, you just couldn’t get it off them. Awful lineout too.

You scored pretty much every time you held possession for more than three phases.

The Woollofs seem to present a more difficult opponent than we're perhaps giving them credit for.

Score was flattering. As it was for the Saders. Perhaps a bit more perspective to the Blue's performance.

I can never understand score was flattering or one team lost but deserved to win. The Sunwolves had 90% territory after 30 minutes of the second half and manufactured one streaky (but well taken) try. The Hurricanes then had ten minutes of ball and scored three times. That isn't flattering. That is one team having a backline which can take chances when they get good ball and the other team not having that. The Sunwolves were plucky and I think put in much better performances on this tour than we expected. However, if they felt they deserved a closer score line, they should have defended better in the last ten minutes or done a bit more with all of their ball and territory.

A guy mentioned to me that the Melbourne Storm lost out on the possession stakes to the Warriors. Does that mean the game deserved to he closer? I think not. You don't need to dominate possession when every time you get the ball you score

@hydro11 I'm the opposite - I think a lot of sport is subjective and the team that has generally played better often loses relatively close contests - as much through bad luck as anything.

    But, a test for you:

One team is ahead by four points. 80 minutes is up on the clock - in the last play of the game, the opposition wing dives into the corner - he's very close to the touchline - may be in or out and the live angle you've seen is totally inconclusive.

The match is over, you've watched the whole thing and, before they go upstairs to review the excellent footage that will be available from another angle - can you form an opinion on who deserved to win?

I like rugby in that generally speaking the better team wins, whether that's based on awesome D or great attacking play. Can't always say the same for other sports, especially soccer where a tin arse goal or two can win a match against the odds.

No, I honestly don't think you can. The exception is refereeing decisions because you can't control that. Maybe bounce of the ball is one thing you could argue about but even then i would probably say one team deserved it.
