Gee Fiji were utter shit. Good for us for them to bring that in the gold medal game.

Not a big fan of 7s, particularly without the top players, but I enjoyed that.

    What top players were missing?

    You're kidding right?

What? I can't think of the top players missing, that's not far off our strongest squad.

Even if you included XVs players then Damien McKenzie and Rieko Ioane would probably be the only certainties.

And then only if they took a year off to practise 7s, it's far too specialised now for ABs 15 players to make a positive impact of a few weeks training. That's an 'amateur' era idea. 7s needs to be centralized and full time - NZ is finally getting the idea

He went of in the first half after getting illegally smahed, Regan Ware (despite hsi dropsy) most amazing on attack - defence was a team effort

That was one of the flaws in our thinking for the Olympics. Pick the best team from the player pool available and develop them

When’s the last time DMac played 7s?

    What?

There's no-one in that sevens squad who is in the top 150 rugby players in NZ.

Trael Joass isn't a first choice starter for the Mako$ and Knewstubb doesn't even make last season's squad.

Don’t need the top rugby players. Just need the top 7s players

When we were most dominant I wouldn’t have had DJ Forbes, Mikkelson, Cama etc anywhere near a top XVs team. But man could they play 7s together.

I agree that it would be better for NZ 7s if the money and respect were getting close to 15s. But its not (apart from Fiji!) and until it is the best players that could possibly be there wont be. I hope it stays that way too, I dont want 7s taking over from 15s internationally.

@chris-b ,those percentages I put out there are similar to the odd the TAB we’re offering, the women in my opinion were always a finals chance ,but Australia given they are the current Olympic champions and at home were always going to be favourites,
On the men,I was thought they were a chance, but on saying that England, South Africa and Fiji especially would be a very dangerous opposition and that’s based on form ths far.

Not really sure why you felt you had to mention the 2nd point, actually thought you were better than that.
The Blues team and the organisation have been a constant disappointment to many in the Northern region, but like Warriors supporters you hang in there.and when the good times do roll around, you take them with both hands.

Seriously - you think Knewstubb is making the NZ Sevens team if Beauden Barrett decides to focus on sevens?

    Joass is pushing out SBW?

Ahem. How about the Super roster? The major European club comps. That's what I meant by top players. I totally recognise they are different games that require different skill sets, but unfortunately the best rugby players on the planet are not there.

@act-crusader Right on the money,it’s specialist sevens players you need, even more than so if you a world class play maker and something you can coach..Someone with out and out pace, example the USA sevens team. When Perry Baker plays they are a very dangerous team, when he’s not playing they are solid and no more.

Don’t need top All Blacks, besides who in their right mind is gonna give potential earning of around 250k to play for a NZ sevens contract ,potentially 80k

What are you on about? SBW wasn't great at Sevens even when he mildly concentrated on it. Is Barrett playing Sevens? Show me how good he is at Sevens and I'll make a decision between him and Knewstubb.

@steven-harris I suspect I've misinterpreted your take on the statistics.

    95% for the NZ Women?

In my book, that's standing on the podium waving to the crowd!

Surely you're not suggesting a 5% chance for the Australian women?

    I thought they were favourites!
