I don't back squat much anymore because it usually causes my munted neck discs to flare up. Sometimes I squat heavy (usually on a box) but mostly I only lift at about 70% of my 5RM. I'm also starting to deadlift using the trap bar now in favour of the Olympic bar.

My goals are to weigh mid 90s and be able to run 3km in under 15 mins on grass which would be a piece of piss for most blokes.

I get abit of gip from my hips and knees thesedays so the next chapter of my training life may well be to ditch the gym completely in favour of bodyweight, kettlebell & TRX workouts and using the local mountain tracks for all my future cardio.

Have also found squat and dead loads much harder to maintain because of all the running.
I seriously doubt that. Should be, not would be. Amazing how many folk nowadays lead totally sedentary lives despite the fact there are gyms for Africa out there.....

A fast 3km especially on grass is hard to do. I've always struggled. Even now, when I'm reasonably fit, I think ild struggle to get under 15 mins on grass

On the concrete these days I reckon I could do 15 just. With a reasonable downhill in there <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'll go do a 3 km on grass down the local oval in my fivefingers some time this week, and let you know how I do.

To be honest I would be stoked to run 1500m on grass in 7:30. A bloke i used to coach tugby with is an exceptional, highly experienced PE teacher and athletics coach. Might enlist his services to teach me some basic technique.

I can run 10km on the treadmill in one hit nae bother now but to be truly functional I need to run at a decent clip even for short periods in the great outdoors.

I guess my goal is to run for shorter periods at a faster clip. Who wants to be stuck inside on a TM for sixty mins in the middle of summer watching Come Dine With Me Omnibus????

In my 'heyday' we used to do 1500m on grass (but in shoes) prior to 7's training and my best was about 6.50 (def well under 7, may have been a bit further under) dunno what I could do it in now...probably a bit over 7mins nowadays I reckon as I did 3km road/street run (just before christmas in a Santa Suit after a beer) in a bit over 16 mins.

Shit..... I'm even less convinced of my potential now. I will settle for
1km in under 5 minutes now!

Ha! My TM times are fine. My conversion to grass is the issue.

Had Bodyfat measured yesterday and to my horror Ive lost 5kg of muscle since my last assessment. Need to up the protein, monitor the intensity if my running and make every rep count in the weight room.
