I just looked that up. That is really cool! what an amazing event! How do the logistics work? Where do you swap?
What do you mean swap? You both have to do the course together and remain within 10 metres of each other throughout the race. Some people use ropes etc

oh, true! shit. I thought it was a relay type deal. That's even cooler. Albeit a fuck load harder, i thought you would at least get a rest!!

Nah, no rests. You need someone you can trust that will want to push to finish.
I'm already pumped and purchased matching shoes and goggles so I look real neat.............

@mariner4life yeah that's whyy we have given ourselve a year to get fit.
I'm 124 kgs of pure pleasure at the moment and want to be much closer to 100-105 come April next year.

Good luck @Hooroo
The mrs just completed the 100km Trailwalk at Whakatane over the weekend
Teams event her and 3 other moms did it, us hubbys are roped in as suppport crew ( we just have the easy part of driving from checkpoint to checkpoint setting up camp waiting for the girls to show up)
Took them just over 22 hours to complete (it’s non stop)
Finished 15th out of over 100 teams, easily the fastest all woman’s team too. -

Great to see you wanting to do this and being highly motivated.
I was just wondering what's best when you haven't trained for a while and there is a bit of sweet loving round the tum. Is it best to go straight into the PT session or maybe start with some lighter stuff and build up gradually?
I'm interested in what people think about that.

Me and a mate are doing this next year.
Training starts now as joined a gym with pool. First PT session tomorrow and she also coaches swimming so will compnie to improve technique while getting fit.
Farly amped for it.
Not looking forward to being the fat twat at the pool with the flash harry goggles but too bad.
The black singlet and stubbies you flaunted on FB were quite slimming I thought.....
Good luck, have fun. Rather you than me

The nice thing about long distance open water swimming is that a bit of extra weight actually helps. Most of the worlds top marathon swimmers carry a bit around the middle.
things i have noticed learning to swim. Women and slightly larger blokes find it much easier. skinny blokes like me aren't buoyant!!
-
This gets harder the more i read. You have to tow your running stuff while you swim? Jesus hooroo.

Holy farkamole you guys are crazy doing this!
Hadnt heard of the event before but just had a look and wow. The BOI course looks tough with those long swims. Actually would have thought that they would go in the opposite direction to finish back at town, not out on the island

I do love how it is all split up though. That 3.1k swim... hmmmmm
Had first PT session today and she seems like a hard taskmaster which is what I need. It was a sorting out session rather than active. Tomorrow the active part starts and she has told me the first two weeks will be a it boring while she builds my fitness up.
I do love straight up PTers and not telling me rubbish. She has set small short terms acheiveable goals that I can be pushed to so long as I have mental strength around food.
Short term goal is 1kg per week and 5 chinups without help in 4 weeks!
Also told me not to give up beer or anything silly but when two months out from the race she reckons she will convince me to give up alcohol for that period as it is one of the biggest hindrances to effective training for endurance type races. I'm all good with that.

dude I have failed (again and again) at keeping a food diary - but it does help to give you a real sense of how much you eat and when. Not sure whether it'd be demotivating or motivating when starting the kai journey, but I know a few people who swear by it. One mate in particular uses an app and while he doesn't eat super clean all the time, it just gives him that daily reminder he needs.
Good luck bro!

Cheers bud. The PT has a little note book that I must honestly fill out while warming up. She then will decide the punishment required to make up for the 'mistake' eating. I love how she does this type of punishment/reward system. Hopefully it will make me think twice before driving through KFC for lunch!
