This is the bullshit that needs to be removed from the disciplinary process.
We get black and white decisions on the field. Refs are instructed that contact with the head MUST be dealt with in a certain manner then the lawyers get involved and the greyest shades of grey descend over things.
'Other personal mitigation'? Bet his lawyer argued that by being an inherent fuck-knuckle his on field behaviour was simply normal for him and that should be taken into account.
When was the Ioane v Marler incident? Are the judiciary condoning retaliation in reducing Marler's sentence?
Totally agree. And if they're going to take into account "other personal mitigation", they should at least give details of what that entails (assuming Planet Rugby has included the full text of the decision).
See text, Ioane v Marler incident was in 53rd minute; Marler v Ioane incident in 58th minute. Seems close enough to suspect retaliation.
If that's the case he should have got more time off, not less.
If they want to stamp out thuggery they need to make it clear that they don't condone illegal retaliation. -
@crucial was thinking the same thing, if he has gone hunting for him to avenge being twatted earlier that deserves harsher punishment.
I always tell the boys I coach you get even by smashing someone legally, has a far better impact on things than being a dirty Cnut.

What's your verdict? Toeava gets yellow for a high tackle (no penalty try awarded), but has now been cited, so the Citing Commissioner thinks it meets the red card threshold. By the way, there were 8 yellow cards in this game, 3 for Clermont and 5 for Castres.
I haven't seen the decision yet, but the French Commission de Discipline seems to have dismissed the case against Toeava. No sanction has been imposed and he's available to play. Glad they got it right.

Speculation is mounting that former All Black Ma’a Nonu will leave Toulon for another Top 14 club at the end of the current campaign. The double World Cup winner has made no secret of the fact that he would be keen to extend his stay at the club for one more season – but mounting cashflow concerns at a club that is very much in economy mode could mean his contract will not be extended, reports in France suggest.

On the subject of costs, I was perusing the Exeter Chiefs website and counted up the numbers in their squad. That is squad, not including academy players. 59 blokes. I'm not sure about how things are for you guys in the SH but that seems a lot to me. The Chiefs are one of the few Aviva Premiership sides to turn a profit too but that has to be one hell of a salary bill.

Watched that Leinster/Glasgow game last night. James Lowe looks to have fitted in well and has added a bit of creativity down the flank. One attack was looking very Chiefs like but then he forgot it wasn't DMac and co he was with and made one pass too many. They all looked to have lifted their unstructured play around him though and I'm not knocking skill levels just instinct.

Lowe is making a good impression with coaches and players. Lancaster says he’s focusing on his defence - a work in progress and the main point of criticism to date. Only 2 NZ/Aus players allowed in European squads so it remains a toss-up between Lowe and Gibson-Park as to who gets picked. Nick McCarthy is coming up the rails steadily as backup to Luke McGrath as is James Ryan to partner Toner instead of Fardy so choice should be more flexible next season.

Watching Pat Lams Bristol against Bedford and boy will they need to improve to be competitive in the prems (if they make it back)
Scrum is weak, kicking is very average and breakdown work is terrible.
With the latter, I'm not sure if it is a product of the new laws which have removed all desire to compete unless in a position to do a perfect Pocock like jackal from behind the tackle. It's like a poor mans version of Brumbie ball from the late 90s.

Looks standard for any NZ school hoping to play in the big leagues. I would think there's forty schools at least training to that sort of routine, although they won't all have the specialist facilities.
Not every school would have weekly video sessions, but most would have them quite often.
Specialist weights/fitness for different positions is standard.
