@crucial the risk with that approach is that JP and his camp didnt want to leave it to a points decision as they expected there to be some fury favouratism there. They were super keen on finishing it in the ring and removing that risk but JP couldnt find a way to do it.

Fortunately the judges didn't score it that way and it appears his aggression and moving forward got him through.

    Another bullshit decision.

Fury outthought and outscored Parker IMHO.

On that performance Parker will get pummelled by AJ

You can't take the title by running like a girl and throwing little backhand taps.

Parker is the champ, boxing has always been adjudicated that way.

Have to agree. JP may have lacked the ability to get close enough but when a guy is tapping and running away why risk charging in when it is up to him to take the title off you.
You want the belt Hughie, come and get it.
What Fury did may have taken skill but it wasnt going to win a title. This rubbish about being like Ali is just crap. Ali may have done that sometimes but he followed it up in later rounds by pummelling the tiring opposition. I don't think he ran away for the whole show.

Edit: JP should have backed off and goaded Fury to come at him. A bit of 'bring it on boy, why are you running away?'

Mayweather made a career out of it.

Did you see Fury's camp swipe the belt from Parker as he was holding it up for the cameras?

Real classy. I'm not sure how anyone could support scum like that.

Mayweather was considerably more aggressive earlier in his career.

Even later in his career he generally threw (and connected with) a lot more punches than Fury.

Its Ok. Parkers camp all went to a nice hotel afterwards while the Furys went back to their caravans.

    and this...

Should get an interesting indication on Parker/AJ comparison this weekend with AJ taking on Carlos Takam.
JP was criticised based on Takam's durability. Let's see how AJ works on him.

Talk in the papers here that a potential plan for AJ after this fight is to take on JP in Feb18 followed by Wilder mid year. If the AJ fight can't be organised for the Feb date (O2 already booked) then they will look to get Wilder to fight Whyte on that date and look to line AJ up mid year somewhere in the middle east.

Yep will be an interesting fight this weekend.

WOnder if AJ will really look to make a statement and try finish it early. Takam has only been stopped once, can AJ be the 2nd man to do it? $9 for fight to go the distance is great value. I got on fight to go over 4.5 rounds @ $2.50 not long after it was announced but its now down to $1.90.

I think its 10am our time on Sunday. Looking forward to it

I think AJ will go straight through him , his accuracy and power is on another level .
I’ll be surprised if takam is still standing in the middle rounds

This feels like it came together really quickly. Funny how some fights drag on forever, while others pop up and feel like they are happening tomorrow!!

I reckon Takam will last at least 4 rounds. He can take some damage, but won't threaten AJ at all. Will we see a TKO or a genuine KO?? suspect the former, say round 7 or 8.

@JK in the radio sport breakfast TAB rambler they took Takam to go the distance - but then Producer Peard realised that while AJ has a low number of KO wins, he's got a fair few TKO wins 🙂 Good money though!!

Poitvekin knocked out Takam, based on that I think a Joshua knckout is pretty certain.

Takam may not even land a punch

Can't believe that Higgins has come out and said they are giving Parker a break but they want him to keep training in the gym so he comes back bigger and stronger..... What the fuck are these clowns doing??? It's like Tua all over again, get him out doing road work and sparring.

JP didn't look in that great a shape against Fury. I don't think he needs to be 10% bodyfat and shredded, but it looked like he was carrying a bit of excess weight, and surely he can add a bit more muscle without losing speed.

Had missed that KO on Takam, will have a look at that fight later. Is Poitvekin known/legit? or is that a fight from back in the day?

Klitsko beat up Poitvekin pretty badly, made him look undersized and weak. And we all know what Joshua did to Vlad.

I'd prefer to see Joseph focus on getting lean and fast, not many great champions have had a bodybuilder like physique.

Not intending to open a can of worms but that sounds like ,

we want to get him away from drug testing for a while to try and get his power and speed back

@paekakboyz Povetkin was on drugs when he knocked out Takam in what was a heavyweight classic. He then failed another drug test when he was meant to fight Stiverne last year so his reputation has taken a massive hit and is struggling to land big fights now not to mention he is almost 40.

Takam is durable and far better than what people give him credit for. I expect AJ to get the stoppage but late on in the fight.

Just found out me and the good lady have tickets to the fight.

My first Championship fight. The good lady's been to quite a few.

AJ should make short work of it.

    KO inside 4

That's because this one really did happen at the last moment. Takam is standing in at late notice due to injury to Pulev

In terms of build up (if that's what you mean), the Pulev fight was always seen as something to brush aside anyway and was never going to get a long period of anticipation. AJs profile is high enough in the UK that he doesn't have to parade around or shoot his mouth off to sell tickets as well, so that makes the build up quieter too.

If he gets past this then expect a fairly long build up to Wilder, or a quieter one (in the UK) for JP

Eddie Hearn has said that Takam was always plan B so they had been in contact with his management since the announcement of the Pulev fight.

They actually paid him a contract to prepare for it whether it happens or not , thats how much they mustve doubted Pulev
