Yeah, loved that game. Test rugby at its best. The free for all at the breakdown lead to a pretty physical game.
However, if any South African complains about Pocock 2011 Rugby World Cup geting a free for all and not supporting his own body wieght......Boks No.2 Marx tonight had exactly the same free for all. It was silly at times.

    Wow, red! A bit harsh?

Late unnecessary contact made it a penalty.. using the elbow made it a yellow...making contact with the neck/head made it red. Left the ref no choice.

Man that was a physical test match.

Crotty and DMac were superb, as was NMS before going off.

SBW’s handling and decision making was a little off again, but we are fortunate to have him and Ioane, both are like extra forwards out there when they carry.

They compliment our other backs quite well.

The start of the match we looked awesome but just couldn’t finish off the moves, making some errors.

    Our replacements played well.

Boks defend like demons, but their attacking game is very iffy. Their phase play and formation is fairly predictable. They need some creativity out there.

Garces is nearly as shit a ref as Nutbrown. Zero control at breakdown. Mauls called in seconds. Turnover penalties when rucks had been formed before hands were on.
What was that penalty against Read about after the knock on by DMac? A bok had kicked the ball! Offside had disappeared

@crucial Read was penalised for playing at the ball while he was on the ground. A fair penalty.

@crucial showed on the screen as offside, but I think it was actually for holding on or playing the ball on the ground, which was fair enough if so. If it was for offside it was diabolical as Read was well onside, even without the boks playing it.

SBW was not good at all. I rate the guy but his performances this year have been underwhelming to say the least.

Was also disappointed with Scott Barrett. He fell off a lot of tackles and PT was a huge step up off the bench. For the Boks, Marx and Estebeth were unbelievably good. Marx just put in the best performance from a forward in a test match I think I have ever seen.

I thought SBW was huge on defence. Saw him make a few cover tackles..
In attack, I was worried every time they passed him the ball

Add in jumping to ensure the contact with neck/head, FFS what a stupid fluffybunny. He pretty much did everything possible to get himself off the field.

And that game made me realise: I'm fine with ABs being "boringly dominant". Blood pressure is cool with enjoying the close hard-fought games between sides where I only have a slight preference for the winner.
Also, well done Boks... a brutal 90 minutes to wake us up at the perfect time.

No, he didn't. According to the match stats, he only missed 2 tackles.

Yes, on attack SBW was poor, but he made 22 tackles (the most of all players!) and missed only one. Source: ESPN

@stargazer Will have to watch it again but it seemed like he slipped off more than a couple upon first viewing.

Stuff gave SBW an 8.5 and DMac and Crotty a 7 each. Were they even watching the same game?

Which would be bloody grand if he wasn't the one turning the ball over forcing everyone to have to make those extra tackles.

I hope South Africa can learn to play that way every week!!! Great to have a test.
In saying that they lost, let's reflect how good ABs were to win that with all adversity with players out inj etc as well as handling errors!
Can't fault any ABs, all played there part, DMAC, never thought he would stand up to this type of test but proven wrong and happy for it.
All the SBW hate, get over it! He did his job, his d with Crotty has been amazing. On attack he is not going to make every offload stick but in the greater scheme he attracts players and opens space which doesn't show on stats.

Nice to see that Garces has learnt the offside law about playing a ball from a knock on by your own player.

Remarkably similar to last time but he didn't "make a deal" and cost us a match and series. Obviously has his betting account being watched now.

It was Garces from the sideline that told Poite to change it to a scrum.

@98blueandgold I'm pretty sure Williams' job isn't to turn over the ball every second touch.
