Cutelaba reminded me of Arlovski in his Champion days, esp the fight against Paul Buentello

Holly Holm finally gets her first win since beating Rousey way back in Nov 2015

A dull fight until the KO finish, both fighters looking to counter strike.

Correia taunts Holm just before the kick arrives

    The timing was priceless 🙂

Arlovski made a big mistake trying to take Tybura down. Should have continued to box. Tybura was ready to go.

NZ gets its first (interim) UFC champion, outlasting and outsmarting Yoel Romero, even though Yoel fucked his knee up in the first round. Yoel has no stamina, looked like a zombie by the fourth round. Pity Whittaker's a Russell Crowe NZer, even has a f'n Aussie flag tattoo... Both fighters would've crushed Bisping, though at least he's pretty funny.

Awesome card, except for the second fight on the main card which was a bit of a bathroom break. Disappointed Werdum fucked up and took Overeem down right after breaking Reem's glass jaw, he would've won if he'd just stayed on his feet.

Great fight from Whittaker. Scrambled well early, took some hard shots, worked through an injury and then clearly won the last 3 rounds

I like Bisping but I can't see him competing with Whittaker for the real belt

Bisping adding some bullshit WWE hype:

    Yep to all that.

    Dumb from Werdum.

Fight of the weekend, and possibly year so far, was Johnson v Gaethje in the Ultimate Fighter Finale.

Manuwa's chances of getting a title fight are pretty much done after today. He had managed to talk his way into contention but that jaw is dodgy

Strange career. He looks unbelievable and smashes everyone outside the top five but cannot beat any real contender

    Jones is scary

I thought DC was striking surprisingly well and might have even edged the first two rounds. Then that head kick and brutal punches. Wow.

    EARLY PRELIMS

    Burkman v Dober
    Cracking finish from Dober
Great way to start the evening

    Brooks v Shelton
Tough for Shelton on the split decision

    Curran v Albu
Barnstormer. Toe to toe for 15 mins. Tough as.
    Tough on Curran.

    PRELIMS

    Fili v Kattar
Solid win for Kattar on the back of a crisp jab

    Ortega v Moicano
Round 1 a great 'boxing' match. Crisp, crisp punch and counter punch in each others faces.
Round 2 more of the same. Great chins from both fighters.
Round 3 more of the same, and then Moicano takes it to the ground and gets guilotteined. Should have stayed standing.
    Cracking contest.

    Barao v Sterling
Good back and forth and deserved decision for Sterling

    Knight v Lamas
Great patience from Lamas, great heart from Knight but big finish from Lamas.

    MAIN CARD

    Manuwa v Oezdemir
WOW. What a finish from Oezdemir.

    Cerrone v Lawler
Great first round, Cerrone showed his mettle against a blitzing Lawler.
Cerrone in charge in round 2.
    Round 3 a war.
No way was that a unanimous decision for Lawler.

    Cyborg v Evinger
Fair play Evinger was game, but Cyborg in a different class.

    Woodley v Maia
Woodley too - insert word - for Maia

    Cormier v Jones
Round 1 both tough as fuck. So quick
Round 2 ditto, DC on top
    Round 3. WOW. Brutal.

A good big 'un will invariably beat a good little 'un
Disappointing from DC bitching to Big John.

Anik, Rogan, Cruz are a fantastic commentary team

Yeah, spot on. I actually found the above scene really uncomfortable to watch and part of the reason is how isolated he is. Apparently Dana White was trying to convince Cormier he was knocked out and it wasn't until Cormier saw that footage that everything started to click into place for him. And this is the result:

Rogan has since apologised for interviewing him as he is no longer supposed to interview fighters who have been knocked out.

    DC's statement:

First off, thank you all for the kind words. I have felt the support. Congratulations to Jon Jones and his team. They did a phenomenal job and got the victory. Also, to Big John McCarthy, I would like to apologize for acting up with you. I am thankful for the time you gave me to try and defend myself and stay in the fight. You are the best in the business for a reason. I also wanna thank my team and my coaches. I love you all from the bottom of my heart. Your time and energy is greatly appreciated. You guys did a wonderful job, I was ready. It's a fist fight and things happen. Dana White and the @ufc, thank you for being the premiere organization in all of MMA. Again, congrats to Team Jones and JacksonWink. Love you all. I'll see you soon. DC

Yeah, um, about that main event... Jones failed a steroid test...

So I guess DC gets the title back and Jones gets banned for four years because it's his second failed test?

FFS the LHW division is a mess now

Jones won't come back. The fans won't look at Cormier as the real champ. The UFC tried to pretend Manuwa was a contender and he got exposed. Rumble had a chance against Cormier and fucked it up, then retired..

Hopefully Gustafsson gets the next challenge and wins the belt

    What an idiot.

But possibly shows that Jones didn't feel he could beat DC clean.

    Ban him for life.

There are some good LH coming through.

He'll end up in Bellator in no time.

He was my guy, based purely on ability, but what an utter piston wristed gibbon. That speech at the end of the fight is so slimey now. I actually thought he showed some class for once in his life.

Cormier probably Knew and so did White.

Classy response from DC. IMO smart to withhold his opinion until we know more:

“It's hard to find words to describe how I'm feeling right now,” Cormier said. “I'm disappointed to hear the news. It's very emotional.
“We as athletes are entitled to due process, and I will refrain from saying much more until I know exactly what happened.
“In my mind, on July 29, I competed and I lost. I thought Jon Jones was the better man that day. I don't know what to think anymore. I can’t believe we are going through all of this again. We will see what happens next.
“Thank you to all my fans who have supported me during this dark time. I love you all very much.”

Daniel Cormier releases statement regarding Jon Jones’ drug test failure

On July 29, Jon Jones defeated Daniel Cormier to become the undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion once again. On Tuesday, news broke that Jones had failed a UFC 214 drug test. Upon hearing the news, Cormier briefly spoke to MMAFighting.com exclusively about the news.

I think what it shows is if you combine it with his weird T/E ratio a couple years ago and the inhibitor he was banned for last year, he's probably been on roids his entire career. It calls into question every fight he's won.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of ban he gets. The inhibitor he failed for last year was only a 1 year ban, whereas roids are two years and second time offenders are double that. So it'll depend on whether they consider this his first or second fail because they're two different drugs. If it's his first then he should get a 2 year ban but if it's his second, it'll be a 4 year ban. At 30 right now, he's snorted, crashed into and pissed hot the peak years of his career. What a fuckwit.

Oh and while I know they're waiting to see how things play out before doing anything, if they don't just give the belt straight back to DC and pretend that loss never happened, it'll be a complete joke. You can't lose a fight to someone who shouldn't have even been allowed in the octagon.
