@Rancid-Schnitzel I have read them, but ages ago now. Bronn is a cracking character - a back story series would be cool, if they can find someone with the same swagger and presence. Jerome Flynn is epic!

May start a re-read soon, but the tv and books are getting further and further apart. Not always big stuff, but enough to give each their own flavour I reckon. Although Martin has kept the tv guys pretty close on the next stages. Maybe we'll see things align again for the ending.

Can I get a reminder on who was in that house that the Hound and co stayed in. I know he topped a dude earlier on, when he was escorting Arya. But couldn't work out the connection in the latest episode.

@Paekakboyz I thought it was just people that had been there when he was there (maybe the owners?), I dont recall the people being of any significance.

I think he worked for the guy and then stole his silver. That's why he was so guilty.

One thing that was a bit disappointing with this episode was that Dragonstone was undefended. Even with Stannis dead, he would have kept a garrison there (in the books it's taken back by Loras with appalling casualties). So there was major potential to see the Dothraki, Unsullied, Dragons etc. in early action. Shame.

But due to Sam's discovery it seems Dragonstone will play a big part in taking out the WW. Will be interesting to see the dynamics behind that.

Oh yeah another thing. Sansa seemed extremely cold towards Little Finger. He appears weak but at the end of the day he holds all the power with the Vale forces. If she rebuffs his advances then flip a coin over what he'll do.

The hound stayed there with Arya back in season 4, he assaulted the father to steal his silver.
Arya called him a shit but the Hound said it doesnt matter, they will be dead by winter. Which of course he was right about.

@Rancid-Schnitzel yeah was good to see Sansa keeping him at arms length.

Yeah the Dragonstone thing was a bit weird, even if there was no one to 'run' it, someone would have moved in, squatters at the very least, surely.

Aside from Bran, anyone else know about the blood ties between Dany & Jon? Tyrion is likely to know, seems to know everything that little fucker!

@Virgil seems quite a few books there, once he finds what he is looking for, not sure he wold keep looking and be lucky enough to stumble upon it...although I guess he may look to see if there was a record of who JOn's ma might be.

I wonder if the silly scene with Arya and the soldiers was about her learning that not everything is black and white so that when she meets up with the Hound again she may recognise the changes in him and they actually end up allies.

We re-watched a bunch of episodes ahead of the new season. Bronn and Tyrion are a fantastic combo. Their banter is right up there with the Hound and Arya.

The few scenes with the Hound and Bronn were class. That coulda been something for the writers to pursue rather than fat fluffybunnies having orgasms over books.

The Hound is a GC, scenes with him are top notch.
Things slowly coming together, even just geographically now too with Arya just up the road from giving Cersei some needle.

    My favourite character hands down.

    Some pearlers:

Rumour has it that the writers may have him become Azor Ahai from the books. I hope that the Prince that was Promised title isn't given to Jon Snow/Daenerys as they've enough titles as it is.

@taniwharugby As we know from Bran's visit to the past and has been guessed by most fans of the books, Jon Snow is actually the child of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, Ned's younger sister.
Whether or not Jon is still a bastard is yet to be seen as it is a common fan theory that Rhaegar and Lyanna secretly wed in the tower before she gave birth.
Rhaegar is Dany's older brother so technically, Jon and Dany are Aunty and Nephew which is why, no matter the tradition of Targaryen's intermarriage, I don't think that Jon and Dany will ever get together like so many fans think.
Dany and Jon may be the last of the Targaryen's. I say "may" as there are many fan theory's surrounding the Imp, Tyrion, could be a Targaryen as it was known that the Mad King Aery was infatuated with Tywin's wife Joanna and as the theory goes, possibly bedded Joanna whilst Tywin was away.
This is often thought of the reasoning for Tywin's hatred of Tyrion and why he says in season 4, "I can't prove you aren't my son" before the trial of Tyrion for the murder of Jofferey.
This would explain why the dragons responded to Tyrion if he also had Targaryen blood.
Perhaps there are three dragons for three riders; Dany, Jon and Tyrion???

@RoninWC that's the way I'm leaning - proof will be down to the Dragons though! I expect their interview process for riders will be pretty cut and fried 🙂

Seems like Sam has already found what he needs re dragonglass - so I expect he'll gap it from his training soon, or have sufficient info that the head Maester sends him off on a mission. I think we are well beyond a montage to show Sam getting his full set of chains!

Absolutely agree @Rancid-Schnitzel. That Dragonstone was left empty is pretty stupid and unrealistic. And you are right about the books, Ser Loras captured Dragonstone and was left horribly injured/disfigured as a result - another significant departure between TV series and books.

@Paekakboyz I'm hoping that there is more to it that simply finding a good source of dragon glass at Dragonstone. Whilst that helps with the Night King and his White Walkers (Others), it doesn't really help with the thousands upon thousands of wights including very cool undead giants!

As for Sansa and Littlefinger, clearly she has learnt from all her trails and tribulations and is no longer the wide eyed innocent doe who first entered Kings Landing with her Father. She and Jon very clearly need the strength provided by the Knights of the Vale and Sansa can't piss off Littlefinger too much.

For those interested, as I was saying to Mrs RoninWC last night, my own personal theory based on reading the books (twice), watching the series including binging on seasons 1-6 over the past 4 weeks and a lot of time wasted reading various fan sites including reddit which has a fantastic GoT forum and Youtube videos such as those done by the "Last Harpy" goes like this:

Jon and Dany and their respective supporters/army's plus allies such as the Tyrell's and Dorne will take on Cersei and the Lannisters plus the Ironborn who follow Euron and this will be forced upon them by Euron's fleet/Lanniser army launching a surprise attack.

As this won't go well for the Lannisters, I think that Cersei will eventually go completely mad and that the Kingslayer will have his hand forced again and will commit regicide/fratricide and kill Cersei fulfilling another part of the prophecy made by Maggy the woods witch given that now her three golden haired children have died.

In the meantime, with the main protagonists being distracted from the North, the Night King and his army will cross the wall - because the Night King has branded Bran which will allow them to counteract the magic built into the wall - and start causing havoc in the North.

Dany and Jon, after Cersei's defeat will then focus on the final battle with the White Walkers and their army of undead.

In this battle, my theory is that Jon will sacrifice himself in some way to gain a very hard fought victory. I have a feeling that maybe Dany might also do the same thing.

Hence, my theory is that neither Jon nor Dany will ever sit on the Iron Throne (or at least not for long) and that ultimately, in my theory, it will be Sansa who left to sit on the Iron Throne as she has earned her craft and guile throughout the series/books and will have either Littlefinger or the Imp by her side. My preference would be the Imp but knowing how this series and the books go, I'm picking it won't exactly be a fairytale ending.

As for Arya, I'm still undecided as to her fate along with The Hound, Bronn, Podric, Brienne, etc. although I'm certain that many of those second tier characters will be sacrificed over the next 13 12 episodes.

As an aside, I was just reading that the 13 episodes originally slated for seasons 7 and 8 (7 episodes for season 7 and 6 for season 8 ) may in fact change and that more episodes may be added by the show runners for the 8th season which would be awesome!

Also confirmed is that there will be spin offs from the world of Ice and Fire, at least three but whether they are movie length or standalone TV series and the characters and plot lines are a heavily guarded secret.

    Outstanding stuff.

Just on the books, how do you see Stannis playing out? No way will the Vale be involved until much later and it's likely that Sansa never even meets Ramsay. Sherine is also too far away for Stannis to burn himself. Then of course you have Manderly pledging to help Stannis if Davos can find Rickon (this btw was one of the best parts of the books - brilliant stuff).

I reckon he has to survive much longer and likely dies fighting the WWers.

When you get down to it, the differences are now pretty enormous. But the end result will probably be the same.

    @Rancid-Schnitzel absolutely agree.

I think in many ways, the TV Series doesn't give enough credit and depth to Stannis as in the books he really is a key character and often has been or is the key plot device for many of the story lines.

Your right, the white harbour stuff with Davos was excellent, really enjoyed it. My thoughts on this is that Stannis (and perhaps Davos) and Rikon's storyline will intertwine as will their fates.

Like you have said, "the end result will probably be the same" but their paths to that result will be very different between TV series and books.

Fuck me but it is almost criminal that George R. R. Martin still has not released "The winds of Winter" as yet. He said some years back it would be released before the TV series got to 5. Now we are at 7 and there is still not a definitive release date.

Solid first episode. Some quality banter and happy to see things moving along. Dragon's have been on a bulk and were looking mean as.

So do we think Sheeran and co got their beans?

I think Arya was going to off them, but this lot of Lannister soldiers seem to have touched her human side.

Obviously I didn't recognise this Sheeran guy, but that unfortunate looking fella who made the wine looks very familiar. Where have I seen him before....
