The Hurricanes Development team will play Wanganui on Queens Birthday, 5 June. For Wanganui, this game is to prepare for their Ranfurly Shield Challenge against Canterbury on 21 June.
Looking at the line-up, there are quite a few players in the squad that normally wouldn't be picked (and a few fully contracted players, who need game time). I assume that's due to several players being unavailable because of NZU20s or NZ Prov Barbarians' duties. Good to see Matt Proctor is on his way back ...
Isn't it Antonio Kirikiri? Or is that his Northland doppleganger?

Some of these names are a mystery to me but having done a bit of research the following might help out a bit
Tuki Raimona – Out of Southland BHS 2010 1st XV and since then been through Marist Invercargill 20011-13 (Registered ITM Cup player 2011) Stratford 2014, Old Boys Marist Palm Nth 2015-16 and College Old Boys Palm Nth 2017. Played for 2012 NZRFU Colts in South AfricaTom Hughes – Guessing a bit here but think he might be the guy that played Palm Nth BHS 1st XV 2011 and since then been playing at Massey University RFC
Liam Mitchell – Another guess but looks to be someone that played PNBHS in 2012 and since them been playing at Te Kawau RFC in the Manawat
Teariki Ben Nicholas – Out of Kings College Auckland 1st XV 2012-13 then College Old Boys-University (Wgtn) 2014-15 and again 2017, Central RFC (Blenheim) 2016. Played for NZRFU Under 20 Team at the Oceania Championship in 2015
Pakai Turia – hails from Wanganui originally but out of Wellington College 1st XV 2012-13 and playing at Poneke Football Club ever since then. A Wellington Mitre10 Cup 2016 contracted player
Pepesana Patafilo – Out of Wellington College 1st XV 2013-14 and Tawa RFC since then. Another one who played for NZRFU Under 20 Team at the Oceania Championship in 2015
Ollie Sapsford – Played his junior rugby at Waihora RFC and Tinwald RFC in the Mid Canterbury area and at Southern RFC (Mid Canterbury) 2012-13 and 2016 (not sure where he was in 2014-15), now at Wellington Football Club 2017
Te Rangatira Waitokia –Played for a combined Wanganui Under 21 team in the Manawatu Colts competition last season as well as the Wanganui Heartland Championship team and now playing for someone in the Manawatu
Ben Power – Out of Hutt International Boys School 1st XV 2012-15 and now at Hutt Old Boys-Marist where he competes with the Bay of Plenty Mitre 10 Cup hooker James O’Reilly for the hooking position
Finbarr Kerr-Newell – Out of Ireland but been at College Old-Boys University since 2013. A Wellington Lion in 2015. He had a season for the Bush in the 2013 (and maybe 2014 as well) Heartland Championship
Ha’amea Ahio – Been through Marist-St. Pats, Johnsonville and Oriental Rongotai clubs and now back at MSP. Had a run in the Wellington Lions at one stage last season from memory
Anthony Pettett – Out of Newlands College 1st XV 2011-14 and at Johnsonville RFC since then. Brother of Black Socks pitcher Josh Pettett
Lui Okeamoa-Luamanu – Out of St. Patricks College Silverstream 1st XV 2013-14 and at Hutt Old Boys-Marist 2015-17. NZRFU Under 20 Team 2016
Leon Ellison – Out of Mana College 1st XV 2006-07 followed by Northern United between 2008-12 and back there for 2017. In between times has been playing in Japan and is a Japan 7s representative http://www.clubrugby.co.nz/wellington/story.php?id=2275
Andrew Wells – First XV at Wellington College for 2010-11 and Marist-St. Pats since then
Brayden Iose – Originally from the Paraparaumu area and a Palm Nth BHS 1st XV player 2014-16 and now at Kia Toa RFC. 2016 NZ Secondary Schools Captain
A few (Pettett, Kerr-Newell, Ahio and Patafilo) of the above were in the Wellington RFU Development team last season. One which incidentally got killed 34 - 44 by the Hawkes Bay Development team he says with a smile!

Here's a match summary from the College Sport Media website. It's not attributed, but I assume it's written by Adam Julian, who's involved a lot with school boy rugby. He was also one of the radio commentators.
Hurricanes U18s defeat Crusaders U18s
The Hurricanes U18s have beaten the Crusaders U18s 25-10 In a curtain raiser to the senior contest at Westpac Stadium, the Hurricanes reversed a 10-8 deficit to win the fixture for the third year running. It was a match which failed to soar to great heights with heavy dew making handling difficult and ambitious players trying too hard to make a favourable impression. The Hurricanes scored the opening try after about 15 minutes when burly prop Kaliopasi Uluilakepa from Petone FC muscled over after repeat phases. The Crusaders responded a short time later by scoring their only try. Winger Leicester Faingaanuku galloped away after halfback Louie Chapman darted short-side and captured the Hurricanes short of numbers. The Hurricanes employed a more direct approach in the second-spell and the Crusaders at times struggled to contain the host’s aggressive forward runners. Openside Josh Southall was a standout and scored two tries. The first was scored by attaching himself to the back of an unstoppable maul. The second was an individual beauty which saw him push aside two players and dash 20-metres. Both benches were emptied as the game petered out lamely. Other standouts for the Hurricanes included lock Taine Plumtree, No.8 Devan Flanders who grew in stature as the game progressed and reserve halfback Humphrey Sheild who injected obvious energy. For the Crusaders, first-five Fergus Burke, lock Cullen Grace, centre Isaiah Punivai and Faingaanuku were the standouts.
Very short highlights video:
My own 2 cents:
The Hawkes' Bay U18s, oops, Hurricanes U18s dominated the first 20 minutes and denied the Junior Knights any possession. The Knights' defence was pretty solid, with the Canes only scoring one try and a penalty goal. Gradually, the Knights took over and Punivai and, especially, Faingaanuku were impressive. I'd say, Caleb Faingaanuku might even become better than his brother Tima, if this game was exemplary of his game. A big, powerful lad.
What I noticed during the last stages of the first half, is that the Canes seemed a bit nervous. Not sure whether it was due to all those Hastings lads experiencing some solid opposition for the first time this season and not knowing how to deal with such a good defence or anything else, but the Canes' first half looked a bit robotic, lacking creativity.
Half time: 8-10 Junior Knights
How much things changed in the 2nd half! Lincoln McClutchie started showing why he's one of the most talented first-fives in his age-grade with excellent decision-making, the forward pack gained momentum and started bullying the Knights, openside Southall and no. 8 Flanders were huge. While I highly rate Fakatave at halfback, his Napier replacement Sheild had a grate impact as soon as he came on. Must admit I had never seen that lad play before, but this game made me want to see more of him on the paddock (<< insert my previous moans about Sky not broadcasting any games from Hawke's Bay schools this year before the finals, here >>).
I can't remember much from the Junior Knights during the 2nd half. Their defence held pretty well most of the time but their attack didn't go anywhere. The Canes' defence was solid and the Knights' couldn't find a way through.
I don't know whether there will be more U18 games from SR franchises, but after watching this game, I can't wait for the (provincial) Jock Hobbs U19s tournament in September!

'Team Man of the Year' - that's like something you give to the weedy little kid that turned up at every practice and filled the water bottles.
Interesting choice to give it to somebody who's leaving also.
And "Super XV" award - is that for somebody who's living in the past, or forward-thinking? -

Finally, the Super XV Award for 2017 went to injured lock Geoff Cridge. The award is given to those Hurricanes players who, for whatever reason, get little or no game time, but turn up every day with the right attitude. Cridge was unable to play due to a knee injury suffered before the season began, but was relentless in his efforts to get back on the field. The other finalists were young back Jonah Lowe and halfback Kylem O'Donnell.
