Māori All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions

DMac will be just fine for the chiefs at 10, coz he almost certainly won't be playing behind a pack that is going backwards...
And he'll have Colin Cooper working out the game plan for him. No wait....

@Bones said in Māori All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions:
Those chiefs legends were slightly detrimental to the MAB's cause.
Even Ngatai wasn't his usual self, looked short of a gallop. Lowe and Messam just looked like they were playing drunk. What the hell was up with Lowe kicking the ball everytime he got it, even in space on attack? And accurate kicking at that...
Those kicks were driving me mental. Either out on the full, or straight to a Lions player, giving him space to work up a gallop. Dire.

So, bring on West; send DMac to fullback, Lowe to the left wing, and Rieko to 13.
That would have been the obvious starting configuration.

The question is, did they start Dmac at 10 at the request of Hansen and co? Or was this Cooper's bright idea?

Not smart from TKB but fucking Murray put his hands on the ball.
The ball has to be out. It's not enough he has his hands on it. Tawera should know that.
Right, I was under the impression that once the HB puts hands on it then it is out. Fair enough.
That may even be the law, but ref guidelines are it is out when HB picks up ball. Rubbish interpretation.

@Stargazer said in Māori All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions:
Phew, YC, not red.
Tough situation when player dips head and shoulder. Any arm and it's a head high. Was he supposed to spring back out of the way? YC fair under current interpretations.

You have to wonder why they didn't start with that combination

I believe it was at the insistence of @Crucial

@Crash if they had a proper 7 out there...
Like Pryor?

Cooper's. In the post-match interview he sees him as a 10. Says his skillset suits that position.

Well we didn't see any of that tonight

He wasn't until the 70th minute...certainly woulda been a sight better 7 than Dixon

Looked a better balance once he came on. Wasn't hard to improve over Messam...

Thank fuck they yanked North.
Blown his chance.
McGeechan agrees and selected Daly as a test starter. I doubt it though.

No line speed and no intensity from the Maori. It wasn't the lions that caused that the Maori just never brought anything near the kind of ferociousness that would be needed to win a test. Was an easy ride in the end. Gatland probably would have preferred more of a workout for his team
