Surely he has his own cash in a bank. Unless he hides it all under his madrasa. Boom tish.

I'm sorry, but every circus needs a clown.

Ill-informed comment. There is such a thing as Islamic banking that respects Islamic rules on interest etc.

Islamic Banking and Finance Definition: History and Example

Islamic banking is a system of finance that complies with Sharia law, including an emphasis on profit-sharing and a prohibition on charging interest.

I believe that was covered above. Organised religion always have sanctioned ways for them to make money off their sheeple.

A lot of assumptions being made that this is a religious based stand. My first thought was that he has a personal sponsorship clash that hasn't finished yet.

It can't be that, you'd never get a team or competition sponsor if snowflakes could opt out with their own sponsors.

Nothing worse than born again types.

According to the media, SBW has a special clause in his contract with NZR. If that's true, it's not a matter of people randomly opting out.

That's example of a person randomly opting out. Stupid of NZR to agree to it, stiffs their sponsors.

thing is, if he had that clause, I assume either since he started with NZR back in 2009 (been a MUslim for 9 years apparently) or whenever and when he re-signed again, all good, but why has he chosen now to decide to make use of it?

News tonight says it's in his contract that he has a conscientious objection to pretty much everything that rugby has to do with.

Can't really complain if they allowed it in his contract

    What a fucking dick though

Can't have it both ways. If you earn massive $$$ through playing a sport then surely sometimes you have to tow the party line and have sponsors on your top?

If you don't like it then donate the money to Islam or fuck off to play club rugby as an amateur. Yeah, as if those are options. The hypocrisy is pretty fucken shit from him.

    Like most religious folk.

@taniwharugby Yes, that's one of the good questions. Also, why didn't the Blues know about it?

Really loving the work of Highlander's back row, Whitelock , Dixon and now Squires. Massive work rate and grunt by all three. Also think Coleman and Buckman extremely underrated and both playing at an AB level.

I reckon SBW has done the BNZ a big favour. Who would have noticed their little logo on the collar otherwise?

Now they've got a whole lot of free publicity.

Maybe he objects to them being known by 3 initials when that's his bag. Watch out T-J and Tawera.

    Oh and Anton.

Sometimes I wonder if SBW sits down and tries to invent new ways for the haters to hate him more ,

It's almost like he is taking the piss , but he isn't ,

    Or is he ?

I mentioned that maybe people go on about him a bit much relative to his actual abilities but he does himself no favours at all truth be told.

I'd say hanging out with fucking nutjobs like Mufti Ismail Menk would have something to do with him moving towards more fundamental Islamic beliefs.

BMW drives SBW deal off the road

BMW is “re-looking” at its ambassador deal with Sonny Bill Williams after complaints about the rugby star’s association with Muslim extremists. Williams’ appointment as one of BMW New Zealand’s brand ambassadors was highly publicised in...

"The controversy stems from Williams’ support of Zimbabwe-born Menk who was banned from six UK universities in 2013 for his extreme anti-homosexual views. He described same-sex acts as, “filthy”, “wrong” and “acts of immorality”.

Menk was recorded as saying: “With all due respect to the animals, [homosexuals] are worse than those animals”."

Do the Blues have a fitness problem the way they fade in the 2nd half of these big games.

The quality of the subs doesn't help either. Guyton and Prattley FFS?

Has this been covered? AIG, Insurance giant, must make some portion of their money off interest and fees (especially for installments or late payments). TR ?
Hence, is SBW going to blank the AB sponsor off his shirt if and when he runs out for the ABs? (obviously not, so he's being hypocritical-BNZ gets a lot of publicity, anyway)

He played for the Crusaders. Did he cross off the name every time he ran out?

As a Highlanders supporter I was impressed by SBW throwing the ball away when the Blues were hot on attack, saving the game. Thanks SBW 🙂

I don't think just SBW has an objection clause in his contract. Everyone does, it's just that he has apparently used it.
I don't know his reasoning and personally don't hold with any views based on mythical deities but I do support the right for people to follow a faith if they wish.
Wasn't there something years back with Kronfeld or Anton Oliver covering a logo up? Or was that adding a political logo?
How much different is this from say, refusing to tour SA in apartheid days because of personal beliefs?
Or Michael Jones or Steve Pokere not playing on Sundays?
