Highlanders vs. Blues

I thought that was a better game for the Blues but still too many individual errors. Fekitoa was awesome. Just played tough, kept coming and by the end he and Buckman had won the midfbield battle against the Auckland stars.
Yeah Fekitoa's best game for some time. He was a monster on defence and showed a few nice touches in attack.
Dixon played really well in that 2nd half. Tackled like a demon and covered a lot of ground.
Francis was excellent I thought.
Not much in these teams and in Orcs it could've been the other way round.
A good game to watch.

Ref wasn't great, but that wasn't the reason the Blues lost. They have plenty of talent there but it seems not many rugby brains. Far too many errors and the lineout is utter shit. I heart Umaga, but I'm not sure he's that good a coach. This team just don't appear well-drilled, well led or well conditioned. Must must obscenely frustrating for Blues fans.
Duffie must be close to AB selection surely. His aerial skills alone are pure gold at test level.

There's just something about Duffie that strikes me as an average test option. I can't pinpoint it, he's playing some great footy though. Must be the mabo.
It's because he's a skinny white guy isn't it? Racist.

That quota is filled though by Bogan, Bender and FABJB...

@Rancid-Schnitzel there's surely some wog in that olivey Mofo.

He looks the quintessential Paddie in this picture:
Don't get much skinnier or whiter than that.

Veitchy is running with tapegate on his FB page too.
There are some serious fucking idiots who post on social media.I hate Veitch, but he knows how to get hits.
His ex will vouch for him being able to dish them out too.

@Rocky-Rockbottom I assume he's awaiting the outcome of the discussion between the Blues and his manager before he says something (see 2nd quote). Seems the right approach to me, although that talk should have taken place before he decided to cover up the BNZ logo during yesterday's game.
The Highlanders won 26-20, but it was Williams' decision to cover over the BNZ logo that caused a stir on social media rather than the result. .. A BNZ spokesman told news media it was a matter between Williams and the Blues. "He's entitled to have religious beliefs and customs around that and it's really between him and the Blues as to how that manifests itself. So we have no issue with it," the spokesman said.
Radio Newstalk ZB on Sunday quoted a Blues official as saying they were unclear why the logo was taped over and would discuss the issue with Williams' manager.

God I love SBW.
Just a massive attention seeking twat.
I'm far from an SBW fan, but I don't think he was attention seeking at all. He probably just underestimated how (social) media and others would focus on this instead of how he played during his first game back from injury. In itself, covering up a logo - if done for religious reasons - is not different from people praying before or after the game, having a cross tattooed on your arm or wearing another religious symbol. That's just exercising his right to freedom of religion and expression and I'm all for upholding those rights, even if I myself don't believe the way he does.
What I'm more interested in is how consistent he is. If he covers up a logo of a bank for religious reasons, is he also refusing the benefits that result from that bank being a sponsor? Not sure what BNZ is exactly paying for, but I assume it goes to his wages, the facilities he uses, or travel expenses etc etc. Is he also refusing those benefits? If not, he's a hypocrite.

Just watched the game. Pretty good game.
Feel sorry for the Blues. They aren't far off. Im starting to think their problems stem largely from 2 and 9. Parsons is rubbish and adds nothing. Pulu is probably the percect impact 9 from the bench with his attack but his fucking around at the base and silly pushed plays are killers. Guyton is barely itm cup level.
Good to see SBW back. Had a few nice touches and if it wasn't for prattley ignoring a two man overlap that break could have put them infront. Pity about the shitty pass along the ground and the logo thing that will cause a storm of bullshit.Duffy was good again. Looking very Ben Smith like. Speaking of which Ben Smith was huge. Prob his best game of the season. A Smith looking good too. Squire played well off the bench.
Rieko was pretty quiet but thought it was the wrong move to send him to 11 rather than Moala who has zero distribution skills.

So BNZ would have no problem with the entire team taping over the logo? At the end of the day, SBW has drawn much more attention to them than they would ever have gotten if he'd just let it be. So I guess they're laughing all the way to their bank.... I'll get my coat

What pisses me off is that some are comparing this with Michael Jones. What a complete load of shit.
Jones sacrificed some of the most important games of his career (including a RWC semifinal and an entire RWC) because of a promise he made. SBW hasn't sacrificed shit.

Talking about clarity. NZR will be happy that this is happening now, instead of during the Lions tour. I think they'll now have a talk to him about what he can and cannot (refuse to) do if he gets to wear the black jersey again. They won't like this type of surprises (and the Blues won't be happy now either). It's way too distracting from the game.
