So we waited for 4 days for the CEO to arrive to debrief?? In the modern age where everybody has a device which can assist with video calling in their pocket?

I think that this response is worthy of the criticism.

it is criticism they have accepted. If anything they were guilty of trying not to over-react to the situation to keep the focus on the game. They have admitted in hindsight that they should have called the cops early on.
But then, as others have pointed out, would that have changed Pulver's victim mentality? He would have said they were trying to disrupt preparation or take the shine off team announcements or something.
As Gregor Paul explains in that radio interview the only reason it became public on the morning of the test was because that was when he found out and wrote about it. No one leaked anything. He was a journo on site and picked up on something happening. Did his job and sent the story off for publication.

By the way, history seems to be being re-written as well. This is a quote from Hansen after the test

"Lots of people are speculating about who's done it and who hasn't and I don't think that's fair because no one knows who's done it and obviously there's plenty of people who could do it," Hansen said.
"So I think until the Inquiry's done by the police, we should sit back and that's it, let them do their job and certainly not speculate on who planted it there because no one knows.
    "We certainly don't know."

and this is one from Cheika..

"I don't think anyone accused us of putting it there, did they? It's got nothing to do with us," Cheika said.

This was Pulver on match day..

"I'm utterly disappointed the story would break on match day and frankly, that's all I've got to say," Pulver said.
"We are going to focus on a game of rugby that we've got tonight and we will deal with this matter after the rugby.
"I simply don't know the background but I'm clearly disappointed it gets out to the media on the day of a Bledisloe Cup match

The tune at the infamous clown press conference in NZ was that the Herald are/were in cahoots with NZ Rugby and are their puppets. This has continued to be the narrative inferring that NZRU are using the media to undermine the Wallabies.

If anyone should be angry about bad inferences it should be the All Blacks. They have been accused during a press conference of collusion with the press to attack the Wallabies.
Meanwhile no one in NZ rugby has accused Australian rugby of anything.

not sure this has been mentioned, but it is not alleged the Security placed the bug, but he misled Police in thier investigation.

@MajorRage said in Bledisloe I (All Blacks team room bugged):

@rotated At what point did I say they leaked it? I said they weren't blameless for it coming out so far after it had been found and, as yet, had not provided a decent explanation for it.

Rightly or wrongly, this thing blew out on the morning of game day. And that's shit for everybody. And NZRU are not 100% innocent about this.

By all means, I'm happy to be corrected if you can point me to a decent source where the NZRU have explained why they found it on Monday and why the media blew up about it on Saturday - game day.

I guess we are looking at two separate things.

The NZRU are certainly not blameless in the news coming out so far after the event. The obviously didn't want it out until it absolutely had to be - ie arrest and charge weeks/months after the game. Ensuring the news came out at a convinient time for the ARU was probably number 50 on their priority list. Is a prepared statement the Thursday before the game any better? That would have played just as poorly in the Aussie press as if Hansen was playing mind games etc.

The NZRU obviously could have involved the police earlier (and this is likely the crux of the charge against Guard) - however given they didn't find the culprit and the news leaked pretty much as soon as they became involved perhaps they were smart to hold off on that.

    The NZRU are completely.

@taniwharugby am not surprised he was not charged with planting it. I'll quote myself ...

@booboo said in Bledisloe I (All Blacks team room bugged):

PS. Surely an unauthorised listening device deserves a greater penalty than "public mischief". Something doesn't quite add up to me.

    Two points:

    1. Why would he mislead the police? This news won't discourage the Aussie tin foil brigade yet.
    2. Wouldn't "obstructing police" be more appropriate? What the hell is the charge related to?

    Is that reported or speculation?

    my speculation
given it was reported to the Hotel first, maybe they and Gard conducted thier own investigation initially, and advised the ABs against involving the police at that point?
    end speculation

Me speculating. Maybe handling the evidence, working with the hotel and conducting his own investigation hindered the police?

Who knows, also this happened in Double Bay and the police force in that area (Rose Bay, Double Bay, Vaulcluse, Point Piper) covers pretty much every celebrity home and houses where overseas celebrities stay in Sydney. So given this guys clientele I'm guessing he is pretty familiar to the local constabulary given the line of work he is. Maybe someone has an axe to grind? Just trying to connect the dots.

Just seems like a tricky case to prosecute when Hansen and the ABs seem 100% behind him.

So the police are saying "we have no clue who did it and it's his fault because he didn't call us"
As if the evidence degraded in the period?

Why the fark would news of this have disrupted the Wallabies? Why would the players and coach even give a shit. If anyone was disrupted it was the abs who must have been slightly unnerved that a listening device was found in one of their rooms.

Exactly. If you know you have nothing to do with it then how is it a distraction?
It's not as if they faced a week long grilling from the media.
Maybe they should thank the NZRU.

No I mean they maybe have an axe to grind with this fellow. It seems strange to charge him for public nuisance in a matter like this when it appears the police wouldn't have the full cooperation of the NZRU testifying against him. They must really want to charge him.

Getting pumped 8 - 42 at home, wouldn't you be looking for a distraction?

I reckon this was how it went down:

Pulver: How the boys travelling Chiek?
Clown: Great guns mate. Like a well-oiled machine. Perfect preparation.
Pulver: Look mate I've got some bad news.
    Clown: What is it?
Pulver: Those fucking Kiwis found a listening device in one of their hotel rooms.
Clown: What the fuck!!!! How can they do this? All our preparations and hard work have gone to shit now. How are the boys supposed to be expected to play with this shit hanging over them. This is Jack Newton stuff.
Pulver: Yes, the bastards can't take us fairly on the field so they have to nobble us like this. Pricks.
Clown: Poo bum fuck wee arse fluffybunny.

Sorry dude ... was meaning when you said: "Just seems like a tricky case to prosecute when Hansen and the ABs seem 100% behind him."

Obviously, according to the Ockers that means they were in cahoots ...

@canefan in which case, would he have grounds to sue the cops for defamation or damage to his business, be easy enough to quantify.
