TV Serieseseses
 Blasphemous! If I ever get over the shock of someone suggesting that Rome has more epicness and detail than the Wire I'll let you know.
I've only watched the first two seasons of The Wire and while I really enjoyed both seasons I wouldn't call it epic. Amazing detail, great characters with a great ensemble cast but hardly an epic.

Maybe I'm being sucked into a traditional definition of 'epic' that doesn't include Baltimore cops, dealers and junkies and failing to see the epic refers to more than vistas, sets, costumes and sweeping historical arcs.

As for Game of Thrones, why did they drop the 'A' and will the entire TV series be called Game of Thrones instead of by the individual book titles.

I've really enjoyed the series so far (up to episode eight). Looking forward to the last two as this is when the surprises come and the standard fantasy conventions are broken.

Most of the casting has been right on and even the child actors are holding their own. Personally I think they have exaggerated certain characteristics in Joffrey (clearly a douche) which has taken away some of the depth and mystery. Quite a lot is made in the books of Joffery looking and behaving (for the most part) as a true price (although almost all of this is from Sansa's perspective).

I'm not quite sure why Lancel Lannister is being portrayed as a foppish nancy-boy - when he's often described as a poor copy of Jamie.

Gendry and Rickon are also too old. I can see why they're gone for an older kid for Rickon although that does take away from the fact that he is essentially an abandoned toddler but having Gendry as 20 something or even late teens is going to change the dynamics is seasons two. Where there no stocky dark-haired 14 year-olds in Ireland? -
I've not sat down to watch the Wire - am waiting on borrowing the DVD sets off my brother.

I can however say that Deadwood was pretty high up on my list of high quality HBO programming. Like eating a kobe steak dinner compared to most other dramas.

Do you think this will actually get picked up by any of the NZ channels? I can't see it fitting any of TVNZ's brackets - and the AO rating/scenes will surely get it dumped into an 11:30pm or later slot.

Deadwood never made it here - nor did the Wire. Did Rome?
NZ TV is pretty good at playing stuff - remember that Sopranos played on TV here but was HBO - so you never know.

The Wire played on TV 2 , quite late, but more due to the fact it's not a cookie cutter police show and wouldn't go well in the ratings than its content. Rome aired on TV One. Remember with the Wire you need to clear time to watch it - you can't watch half assed.

I'm 4 episodes into Deadwood and got bored, I haven't put it in the not watch basket yet but it didn't grip me at first like everyone else.
Haha you're probably thinking the Khaleesi - I'm talking about getting some Headey!
I was initially thinking about Headey but thought you might have meant the Khalessi - her two slave girls are hotter. I assume you've watched the Terminator series?

Not arguing that The Wire isn't awesome (the first two seasons were at least) just that it doesn't really have that sweeping epic feel.

I've just about given up on convincing the missus to watch season three and will watch it myself to get a feel for the whole series. -
Haven't seen the Terminator series, I saw she plays Connor. Worth a watch just for that?
I actually think it's worth a watch just to watch. It started off slowly but seemed to be getting in to the swing of things when it was inevitably cancelled.
You've got 4 and 5 to watch as well - bastard, I wish I could have them to go! -
I enjoyed Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. She took the Sarah Connor character in a nice direction - still really strong, but not as nuts. As said - it was just starting to get good when it got cancelled.

@Nepia - I really enjoyed the world created in Deadwood - huge ensemble cast, all of them strong - and the language/writing was really solid. I had to watch with sub-titles on at times - to actually understand some of the "English" - it was a definite challenge. But I think I liked that challenge.

Cancelled after 3 seasons unfortunately. But kind of understandable - due to the production quality and scape - it must have been expensive.

Did you ever try Carnivale? -

I really liked Deadwood, in particular Ian McShane, although the 3rd series was a bit average, but it makes a mockery when something that is still good gets canned, and they allowed them to make 25 series of Lost!!

Think I might merge this with the TV Series thread. -
Have been re-watching the Larry Sanders Show. Really good TV comedy. Hank's Video was a classic episode.
I saw Iron Man 2 the other day and was thinking how good Gary Shandling was in it. Must get some of those old shows. -
Through the 1st 5 episodes of Game of Thrones, am enjoying it, alot of complex and detailed characters and sub plots, I dont think I feel I am missing anything (in regard to an earlier comment from someone about having their mate fill them in who had read the books?)

Peter Dinklage is superb as Tyrion Lannister, plenty of other characters to love and hate too -
Just finished season one of Game of thrones..absolutely fantastic, now I'm torn between reading the books or waiting for the next season. Its been great not having read the books to be totally not expecting each twist and turn of the series, I think I might try and hold off on the books at least until the series starts to lose its lustre.

I folded, and started in on the books halfway through the season. Just finished the 3rd book, picking the 4th one up at the library tomorrow, and hope to knock it out before the 5th book gets released on July 12th. Then a 7 year wait until Martin writes the 6th book. -
October (I think) brings the return of "The Walking Dead"

Admittedly that is awhile away. -
Just finishes Ep 7 of GoT, and was surprised with the ending, if somewhat a little disappointed, given what I think of Joffrey....<img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Just watched all three seasons of breaking bad and thought it was bloody brilliant. Pinkman is a wonderful character and I am glad that they kept him around for the entire show. I thought that they were going to get rid of him for a while towards the end of season 2.

Glad that my wait isn't as long as what some of you fellow Ferners have had to endure for season 3. Only a few weeks now, hehehe. -
most anticipated show of the year for me is Breaking Bad S4....ended on a cliffhanger!
