Other slightly interesting news is that NZ Junior Finn Reynolds has made it to the Junior Boys doubles semis. Playing the top seeds there.

A NZer doing well at tennis. Clear evidence confirming the thread title.

Not only made the semi against the no.1 seeds but has tipped them over in two tie-break sets and is in the final.

Surely being carried by his (Portugese!) partner.

The Venus-Coco match was a pretty entertaining one. I'm surprised Coco hasn't made more of an impression on the womens' ranks, because she can play and is not short on power.

I missed Serena's match, but thought it would be a foregone conclusion.

    Looking forward to Roger-Stan!

Pissed off these two won't meet in the final. Big fan of both of them.

I know the "Serena is a dude" thing is a pisstake, but seriously no man, trans or not, would ever have curves like that. I'm surprised there aren't more woman on the circuit with her build given how successful she is. She completely wiped the floor with Lucic-Baroni in her semi, it just wasn't a fair contest.

I would fucking love Rog to take it out. I was a big fan when he first joined the circuit, way before it was cool.

Stan will kicking himself for a while over dropping that service game in the fifth set. He was in command - Roger looking short on gas and ideas - and suddenly fell apart.

My money is firmly on the Spaniard.

Yeah I was expecting a flood of bigger, stronger women to come onto the circuit after the success of the Williams sisters (and Amelie Mauresmo to a lesser extent).

But they haven't, which I think is testament to how amazing Serena actually is. Easily the most dominant athlete of the 2000s IMO.

I can't stand Serena. But I have to respect her for all that she's achieved.

As there ever been as bigger arse on the sports field as Serena Williams? Saia'a Faainga maybe?

Massive set of cans on her too. Gotta respect that as well.

Did you see Rog's interview after the match? It's little wonder he is so liked. A little bit funny, then effusive in his praise of his mate Nadal. They really want to play an Open final against each other one more time.

@mariner4life He's PR perfect ... alot of it though on the back of being such a fabulous sportsman to watch. I don't really care about tennis, but do find myself making a lot of effort to watch him play.

Seeing Roger in action both on and off the court just highlights what a class act he is and what a prize fuckstick Kyrgios is. Fed cracked the top 10 when he was 21 and won his first slam aged 22. He was treated like a God in his home country, yet incredibly and astonishingly, never felt the need to have "a bad day at work" or "entertain" us with a tanty.

@Rancid-Schnitzel I used to think Roger was naturally cool calm and collected until I watched a documentary on him a few years ago. In it Roger talked about when he first came on the scene how he had terrible problems with his temper. He realised his tantrums would stop him from being the best player he could be so he worked really hard to learn to control himself. I respected him even more after that.

Indeed. It is actually possible to be young and mature at the same time.

There is a humdinger of a semi-final going on between Nadal and Dimitrov at the moment.

Nadal won the first, Dimitrov the second, third went to a tie breaker whick Nadal won, Fourth is currently 4-4.

    Breaks and counter breaks galore

Rafa wins out in the end. Had to battle hard for it.

Federer will be the freshest going into the final.

Only saw bits and pieces of that game, but looked like a great match.

Dimitrov looked like he might have the weaponry to overpower Rafa, but that Spaniard is like a modern day Asterix in his "indomitableness".

How did Asterix get his strength?
