According to the All Blacks website, he'll move to France after the 2017 Super Rugby season. I assume that means that he'll not be available for the Lions tour.
The Lions tour is during the Super Rugby season. He will be available, whether the selection panel blackball him is another thing.

I doubt that'd do that. He is the clear number 2.
I'm hopeful that Laulala will step up but so far the only notable thing he's done in a Black jersey is miss a tackle on Nic White when he scored the match winning try a couple of seasons ago.

Not a chance! The days of cutting of our nose to spite out face in order to "punish" a player are long gone.

In 2012/3 Hansen outright said two players would have been new caps for a June squad if they hadn't signed off shore at the end of the season. I'm pretty sure we figured one was Bateman and can't remember the other.
He won't drop someone because they are heading overseas - but I'm sure the tie will go to someone staying. I expect Faumauina to be in the squad unless a young prop lights it up in the first rounds of Super Rugby and I don't see that happening.
Did we ever cut our nose to spite our face with this stuff? I can't remember anyone being unceremoniously dumped.

Charlie Piutau? Was seriously on the outer and not allowed to play a part season of Super.
yes, I can carry grudges for years.

Great, our only ball-carrying prop leaves. Massive loss and arguably a bigger loss than losing Dagg or Cruden.

Damn. Bloody Jauzy ...
He only ever has bad news, time to ban him?

You can reasonably put Piatau in the camp of ties going to players staying. Really easy arguments that players were ahead either on Super form that year (NMS, Naholo, Smith) or incumbency (Savea). Dagg beats him on experience, but little else at the time. He was comprehensively ahead of Jane for sure, though but not enough to make him a slam dunk selection for anything other than the Samoa game - which he played.
From memory over half the squads posted on here didn't include Piatau (mine did).
Not being able to play only the first part of a Super Season season is totally understandable - and without precedent. Obviously exceptions have been made in some cases missing chunks but it has always gone hand-in-hand with an ongoing commitment.

Piutau has been ripping it up lately, (and wouldn't look out of place in an AB jersey) unlike most of the exports to France who appear to get fat and lazy on the good food, and unholy diet of cheese, bread and wine - Joe Tekori, taumalolo, tuitavake and tameifuna spring to mind.
Can either Pauliasi Manu or Kane Hames play both sides? -

Can either Pauliasi Manu or Kane Hames play both sides?Tameifuna was rated the best THP in the Top 14 for the 2015-2016 season. I think the white and blue stripes make him look fatter but he seems fitter than when he was playing for the Chiefs. He has improved his scrummaging dramatically.
Among exports who do very well in France are Rory Grice and Toby Arnold. Not the greatest names in NZ rugby but they are pretty useful for their respective teams. -

Charles Piutau plays for Ulster.

Yup, in Ireland.

Who gives a shit about Piutau? For whatever reason he chose to cash in instead of having any sort of decent All Black career. Not the sort of guy i want playing for the ABs. Would rather guys who are prepared to stay and fight for a jersey even if it costs them millions.
Evans is in the same basket. Could have played 50 tests with all the injuries Carter had after 2007 but chose the cash. He ripped it up in the NH but guys like Donald and Slade who stuck around have RWC winners medals. -
