Boardwalk Empire started here last night, first episode was pretty good.

Watched the first episode of the US remake of The Killing. It's so bad I am cracking up. Absolutely zero subtly. It's bad even by Law and Order standards. I keep expecting Ice-T to pop up as the streetwise detective who just hates those sex killer perverts. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

The first episode started 30 minutes ago, for those that get USA TV shows via other means. I am DVRing it and will give it a shake shortly.

This has everything if they get it right but stand by to be hugely disappointed
I think it will work. -

I watched it tonight, liked it. Very good adaption so far.

Ok. Watched it. Actually watched it twice in a row, to try identify characters/names/relationships etc as I have never read any of the books. After seeing the first episode, I am considering picking the books up. Kind of torn though, as only watching the show means that everything that happens is a complete surprise to me. As usual, HBO did an amazing job with the production values and design. It was very well done, and looked fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Fantasy but with a bit more focus on relationships/power struggles/politics than out and out magic etc. Lots of brutal action though which is why I'm stoked to see it on tv - great to hear some positive things about it here. Will be watching it tomorrow - if Skynet and the Melissa Lee Terminator don't catch me first

Just started the second book. While classified as fantasy its more historical but not set on earth, a few magical things going on (but as of yet not an overly a huge part of the story) There are no armies of Orcs running around or Gandalf like characters (supermen). The only dwarf is just height challenged as opposed to Lord of the Rings variety. Main characters get killed off, rape, incest, heroes die, villains die

Cool, sounds like my cup of tea. Thanks. -
Well worth a read. As said more political intrigue than traditional Fantasy.
One of the best examples of the genre in many a long day. Just wish the books would appear more regularly!
Yr feedback sounds encouraging. I was fearful it was going to be a Legend of the Seeker type disappointment. -

If you go to the offial youtube page they have videos describing each of the characters and houses. I'd post a link but its blocked at work, its either gameofthrones or the HBO youtube site. I'd never read the books but found watching these small videos in advance of the first episode helped explain alot. -
watching the DVD's of season 3 of Eureka. Better than the second season, back to like it was in some of the best episodes in the first season. Still surprising me that series like this get made, and renewed in the US - maybe some channels in the cable tv system over there are more skewed towards the smart/geek audience. Is nice to have a sci fi program that does not speak down to you, and try to explain in simple terms the scientific concepts it uses.

sounds good, might give it a whirl, decent viewing a bit scarce at present...
