@MN5 I quietly sipped a Glenmorangie in celebration at their November results. Would love the Scots to keep improving as they have recently.

The amount of times I've said similar only to watch them crash and burn vs Italy in the six nations first up. Shouldn't be an issue next year though, they beat S.A sure but who can't do that these days?

Argies are an extremely ill disciplined side. It's not just the penalties, but they don't realign well. They play 10 minutes of decent footy and then fall off the boil.

When they played good footy against the ABs they looked committed for good stretches. They had none of that against England.

Argentina prop Enrique Pieretto has received a seven-week ban for stamping during the Pumas’ Twickenham defeat against England last Saturday.

Substitute Pieretto was sent off by French referee Pascal Gauzere after the official consulted video replays of a second-half incident that showed him stamping on England prop Joe Marler.

A statement released by the autumn international disciplinary said that Pieretto appeared by video conference before a World Rugby-appointed disciplinary committee, when he accepted that he had committed an act of foul play, but claimed it did not warrant a red card.

The disciplinary committee disagreed with Pieretto’s view, though, and believed it was a red card offence.

“As for sanction, the disciplinary committee determined that Mr Pieretto’s actions had been intentional and that they merited a top-end entry point based on World Rugby’s scale of seriousness, which carries a nine-week playing suspension,” the statement read.

“The disciplinary committee further determined that there were no aggravating factors and that there were some mitigating factors, such that his playing suspension be reduced by two weeks.”

Taking into account 21-year-old’s Pieretto’s playing commitments – he does not have any before early February – he will be free to play again on March 20 next year.

No aggravating factors? Marler got yellowed for no aggravating factors! FWIW I have no great problem with his yellow card but once again the judiciary are looking a bit daft or at least making the ref look a bit daft.

I had to read that twice as well. Aggravating Factors are things that will aggravate the punishment. Mitigating factors are the opposite. The mitigation to the punishment was because Marler was being a cock.

Here is how they explain it:

    • Mitigating factors could include a player’s good record
and character, the action taken to prevent the incident occurring
again, an apology and remorse. Aggravating factors could include
the player being classified as a persistent offender of the
laws of the game, a lack of remorse or the need for a deterrent
to combat a pattern of offending.

@Crucial That makes more sense. From that it seems that there is no relevance placed on provocation?

Geez, how could he not think stamping in the face deserves a red card?

I don't think he deliberately aimed at the head. He probably feels a bit hard done by because of his own stupid reaction.
When it happened I initially though he put his foot down to regain balance as he looked about to fall with Marler hanging onto his other leg. It was the reserve angle shot that condemned him though where you can see him stamp. If he had simply placed his foot on Marler and put his weight on it he would have had a good argument of regaining balance.
    Dumb reaction.

Could be. Then again, maybe veganism is a missed steak...

For lack of a better thread to post this:

Former Crusader (now Ospreys) Kieron Fonotia has made himself available for Samoa. I'm surprised; I had no idea he had links to Samoa. I always thought his name was Italian 🤔 Never good enough for higher honours in NZ, but wouldn't be a bad choice for Samoa.
