what was he supposed to have done any differently in the time he was on the park and given the lack of possession? When have other first fives in the history of the game altered the tactics and game plan in the first half to "take control" of a game?I can't recall too many 10's who see the big picture in the game, more ofdten they get it explained to them at halftime. I think Barret got yanked because of his goal kicking not his control of the game.
You could see 2nd half that Cruden had either been able to see more from the sideline or had been told by the coaches to deal with the very fast rush D the Wallabies were playing (hence them getting pinged offside a bit) and one of his first actions was to dink a chip kick in. Thats pretty much text book for what to do if a side are rushing you.
I'm pretty sure he only did it once tho' & Charlie & Crocket galloping onto the ball close in probably had more tactical effect. Adding 230kg of ball carrying helped us push the gainline far more.

Oh boo fucken hoo.
Perhaps if the Wallabies have got a very poor record under the best referee in the world, they should take a bit of a look at how they play the game, rather than moan about the ref? On the other hand, our poor record under Barnes is because he's obviously an asshat.
Define "poor" re Barnesy? How many have we lost compared to won?

Rod Kafer column: Nigel Owens was very poor and changed the course of the Test match
Seriously that's fucking embarrassing.
The All Blacks aren’t in control of what the media write, but they’ve got a close relationship with the New Zealand Herald.
There are stories in the Herald that are very closely linked to the All Blacks — but I’m not suggesting they had anything to do with that Michael Cheika clown cartoon.Translation: I won't say it outright, I'll just imply it.

@booboo Well of our last 3 losses, he's been in charge for 2, plus one other from a few years ago I think I've seen mentioned before. Not sure how many more times he's reffed us....
That's a reasonably high proportion then.
Would like to find a site where we could look at results v refs but not so good at the google thing (and it's too hard...)
-
@booboo I just found another to add to the list from 2010 (plus another from Clancy).
So of our 3 losses since RWC 2011, Barnes x 2, Clancy x1. Slightly sporadic check prior to that found another from Barnes in 2010 and another from Clancy. One from Goddard, one from Joubert and one from Owens.
As you say it's pretty tough to check, I just used a combo of wikipedia fixtures list to see the results then to NZH fixtures to check the actual games - have at it!
Edit: as I think @gollum said, NZR website should have this info readily available, but is shit and just takes you to news stories for each match.

They do in the statsallblacks section: http://stats.allblacks.com/default.asp
Kafe has completely lost the plot with article, he's just doubling down on stupid. He's whining in one section that Read should be penalised for an action and then in the very next arguing that DHP shouldn't be. Bonkers.
"Shoulder on shoulder, behind the ball, it’s not obstruction."
I find it odd that the Aussies can watch that footage, yet not see DHP change his line and then push Savea.

Sorry nick and barb, this isn't really aimed at you, you guys haven't gone full whinge (just sort of half)
But fuck this whinging, bleating and crying from the Australian rugby fraternity this year. They should be embarrassed.
My guess is it's born of frustration. This year was not supposed to go like this. The established narrative after the world cup was of a team on the rise. The all blacks were supposed to be going the other way.
Instead its been a horror year. Their super rugby teams were bent over and railed. They got whitewashed by the poms. They list in South Africa, and tried their hardest to lose the game in aus as well. We have given them a nearly unprecedented 3 game mauling. And along the way they've played some mind-numbingly poor rugby, compounded by some strange selecting.
And what have we heard from the rugby community in aus? Not even excuses, just bleating. This weekend had been the worst, fuck me "we didn't get awarded a tryyyyy. Waaaah" in a game you got gaped by 27, and with even an average international kicking performance it's more like 33.
Your media has lost the plot, your coach can't find answers, and all the focus is external. What happens if you win 2 from 5 on tour? Who are you going to blame then?
-
Barnes refereed the 2011 Bledisloe in Brisbane and essentially shepereded in the winning try.
Which is missing from the list.
His inclination to get on camera and walk onto the field to speak with the referee as an assistant likely makes him widely disliked by his peers.
ESPN Scrum should allow you to filter by official or at least losses and go from there.
-
One thing I noticed in the game was Owens not allowing the scrum competition. That series of scrums when the Aussies couldn't hook it due to pressure were great. Then Owen allowed Phipps to put the ball into the second row to try and get the game moving. If it happens again I reckon we need a rule change like mauls - use it or lose it. If you can't hook the ball the scrum is reset but the other team gets the put in.

No law change needed just better application.
Agree that Owens got bored. Phipps should have been pinged it was so obvious war he was going to do. -
I think if you brought in that rule it'd result in an unending string of engagement penalties, just a massive incentive suddenly - especially when a side have a defensive scrum near their line, to go a fraction early.
And you'd get a shit ton of free kicks from the 9 not putting it in.
I'd rather they just let the 2 scrums arm wrestle till either they hook it or one of the sets of props collapses from exhaustion

Cheika I thought he was a character but blaming the bugging and the NZ Herald cartoon on the All Blacks when as far as I know they never blamed the bugging or the Richie grubs cartoons on the Wallabies showed not only Cheika is a complete whinger. but also that the opposition can get under his skin. I should have guessed he has a thin skin-Eddie Jones knew this all along.

Not one to hold a grudge ol' Cheika - the bugging thing hasn't been mentioned in how long?
Must come with the territory though as I'm pretty sure Hansen's post-match presser he was giving it to the Aussie media saying how the victory finally atoned for injustices of the 2003 sub hosting double cross.
-
Cheika is no good for the Wallabies, he's just an angry individual which is no good for the team. Eddie played him like a bloody fish and took full advantage and he'll do it again. If you ask me, the captain and the coach need to be dropped for the Wallabies to progress. I think it's a forgone conclusion that the Wallabies will lose two on this northern tour.
-
Just to add to this, but the Aussies have always performed best when they've had intelligent & astute coaches. Dwyer, McQueen and cough Jones spring to mind. I don't know what other coaches are out there but one who focuses on their own issues would be great start!
