2016 Black Ferns

Gee only 4 players from the SI and none from Welly?
Yes, especially, if you consider that Canterbury and Wellington reached the semi-finals of the NPC. They have gone with a lot of incumbents and only a few newbies, but it's surprising to see that Kat Whata-Simpkins and Sanita Levave (Wellington) and Tara Horsnell and Steph Te Ohaere-Fox (Canterbury) aren't in the squad (to name a few).
Still a very strong squad though. It will be interesting to see how they go. The English women's team is now fully professional, so should have a huge advantage. Maybe that won't yet be noticeable during the November internationals, but it might be at the World Cup next year.

@Stargazer Yeah I saw that announcement recently, got quite a bit of coverage on the beeb. Odd as I thought they already were - so maybe were only semi. Is it the US team that's professional?
Not sure. It may also be that their Premiership teams are professional and that the National team wasn't, but I don't really know about that.

The Aussie women (Wallaroos) played a warm-up match against Auckland Storm (Auckland's women's NPC team) this afternoon. The Wallaroos beat Storm 21-19. Considering the Aucklanders will have been without their 6 Black Ferns (all forwards), this is a good result for the Storm.

Strong looking team, even with a few newbies in the squad. That backline looks deadly!

Good to see Portia in there. Here's hoping she has a big game

Funny how the the Black Ferns had a huge number of players in the line-out, including two backs.
And those backs couldn't stop laughing when they went to the front of the lineout. An obvious set move.
Really impressed with the workrate of both locks and the captain Fa'amausili.

It must be hard for the Wallaroos to prepare for the World Cup next year if they don't have a women's equivalent of the NRC (or our NPC), their players are recruited straight from club rugby and the Aussie 7s and - if I understand it correctly - they don't have a tour to Europe.
The Black Ferns haven't played since the June 2015 Super Series, but the Wallaroos not since the last World Cup in 2014.

She has a huge engine. Unbelievable that she's 36!
