I have no problem with discussing this record vs the 90s Books, 60s Abs etc., and you can remove Namibia, Tonga and Georgia (teams that would beat Cyprus by 70+ btw) if you want to. Those would be valid comparisons. But using the Cypriot record as some kind of benchmark is bullshit. The gulf between tier 1 and 2 is big enough, but between them and the teams Cyprus plays it is absolutely farking enormous. It simply is not a valid comparison and it is not taken seriously by anyone who knows anything about rugby.
Yeah. I see this more in the cricinfo style stats geek articles - where they compare records accross eras etc - and often exclude Zim and Bang (which btw is very unfair to the 90s zimbos and very generous to the 1950s 'blackcaps').
I can accept the streak is good and discussion worthy. Just as long as the words "test", "win" and "record" aren't applied when that is false then I'm all good

And as mentioned, it's ridiculous to even mention them in the same breath. I can't recall a test cricketer ever breaking the record for runs or wickets and someone then coming with the caveat that someone at a much much lower level got more runs or wickets.
How absurd would this sound:
"Matt Hayden has broken the all-time test batting record. But of course he will have to score another 600 runs if he wants to break the all-time record set by a school kid on a patch of dirt in India who was dropped over a dozen times."
On the contrary, how absurd would this sound?
Matt Hayden: I just scored the highest score in cricket of all time!
Interviewer: Well, not quite Matt, there was an Indian kid who scored more than 1,000.
Matt Hayden: Nah - I got more than him, he doesn't count - mine was a test match.
Interviewer: Well, what about Brian Lara's 501 versus Durham - a first class match?
Hayden: Nah, I got more than him as well - it's not a test match.
Interviewer: Well, what about Brian's 375 against England - that's surely better than your 380 against Zimbabwe?
Hayden: No, no, no, mate - mine's clearly 5 runs better.
Interviewer: Well, thank fuck Brian backed that up with another 400 against England.
Hayden: I'm fucked.
You guys are confusing quality with quantity.
Cyprus are an international team - apparently the teams they've beaten are international teams.
So either, you need to appeal to the IRB to have those matches disallowed as test matches, or you need to appeal to the UN to have them disallowed as countries.

@Pot-Hale
Well, I guess we should just put that whole thing to bed.
Just 3 wins next year, and the whole "Tier 1" distinction is irrelevant, yeah?
Kinda like us only ever having won the World Cup at home... this team sweeping all that bullshit aside, making things simple. That you only can win world cups at home thing pissed me off more than the choking tag before it , because it was stupid
I mean if you look at away from home test wins , no one comes close to the ABs ,
I was wondering what was going to be next ........ we can only win world cups on saturdays

What a nonsense post. The obvious difference is that people have actually claimed that the record the ABs are gunning for now isn't the real record which is held by Cyprus.
Thankfully people with even the slightest bit of knowledge of world rugby know that even comparing tier 1 or 2 rugby with tier 6 or 7 is quite simply laughable.

Christ mate - how many opportunities do I have to give you to gracefully bail out of the conversation?
I certainly haven't learned anything from you from this discussion - the points made seem to be pretty fucking obvious. You can either believe that the Tier 1 record is the real record or the international teams record is the real record.
I don't think anyone is under any illusion as to what the respective records mean.
So..why the fuck are you still attacking me?
Frankly, I'm not really interested in pissing contests - if people want to have good-natured discussions with me about footy than I'm ready to engage, but I can't be bothered with this stuff.

If you can't be bothered then why in Buddas' name waste time with the Hayden-Interviewer thing?
Anyway, I don't think the actual real proper record will be broken tonight. I'm feeling a draw or loss. Hope I'm wrong.

Looking ahead, if the ABs won all matches on EOYT (including the Australian banana skin match), the streak would be 22.The Lions must play the following teams in the two weeks before the first test: Blues, Crusaders, Highlanders, Maori ABs, and Chiefs. Plus the Hurricanes after the first test. That should soften them up. So, assuming ABs won all three, the streak would be 25.
Then the 2017 Rugby Championshp will all be matches in NZ. Aus, Arg, and SA. 28.
How long can this thing go? 17? 20?21 and lose to France?
EDIT: @taniwharugby .....LOL, well you're right, and only then is Hansen allowed to retired!.... but let's not get carried away.

What is it with this thread and pendants?
Never been happier to be wrong about the result of a game. Still reckon we'll get beaten once this year. Just hope it isn't against farking Ireland.

Highly unlikely.
After yesterday's spanking, I've revised my scoring margin further.
If Ireland can keep the losing margin to less than 40, I'm regarding it as a win.

@Rancid-Schnitzel Sorry RS - I was supposed to be doing work on Saturday afternoon, not fucking around on the Fern.

That's a conundrum - which would I prefer:
- Wallabies beat All Blacks at Eden Park for first time in decades
- Ireland beat All Blacks for the first time ever
???

Without any hesitation, I would take the Wallabies beating us at Eden park. At least it isn't something that hasn't happened before
-
I would have a huge problem losing to the Aussies given the way they are playing and how we are playing and the fact it's at Eden Park. The Eden Park fortress means more than not losing Ireland ever.
At least against Ireland we could blame being out on the Chicago nightlife. There is of course the Aaron Smith excuse....
