Couple of statistical oddities from last nights win
Hay's 99* is the first from a Black Cap in an ODI since Bruce Edgars waaay back in 1981And i wonder how often would all 10 wickets fall caught behind the wicket in an ODI the way Pakistan's did last night?
I’m amazed Edgar scored quick enough to even get to 99 after 50 overs
There was a stat the other day highlighting how Good Mitch has the most ODI runs after 50 matches
in 5th place was ole BrucieEdit: Found it
It wasn't necessarily a dig, Edgar came and spoke to us at school once, awesome bloke. I loved the fact a guy from Wellington played for NZ and took the time to see us kids.
Different times but as as Jeff Thomson apparently sledged him once he would "never die of a stroke" !
Strike rate of 49 in ODIs.
I'm also REALLY surprised KW, Taylor and Crowe aren't on that list.
Crowe had scored 1413 runs @ 33
Kane had scored 1409 runs @ 36
Roscoe scored 1330 runs @36so neither of them were great starters early in their ODI careers.
all turned out pretty handy though i suppose. -

Mitchell making a claim though

Overall runs for ODIs suggest people better later in the careers in general from that list
-
Neither Crowe, Taylor or Williamson had amazing starts to their Test careers either.
After 10 tests Crowe only averaged 20.68, (after 24 tests he still only averaged 34.23)
After 18 tests Williamson only averaged 32.71
After 14 tests Taylor only averaged 34.48if any of them were English they probably wouldnt have played any more then they did.

Mitchell has been awesome, but has also benefitted from the Adam Voges type selection in that he was older when he first made the team, so knew his own game inside out and had already ironed out a lot of issues with his technique etc. Kane, Rosco and Crowe all had to learn on the job as youngsters.

Yeah that way of thinking helped Hayden and Hussey across the ditch too. They went ok.
Maybe that's what NZ need to do with Ravindra, Nicholls can fill in for the next five years can't he ?

While we're waiting for the pitch to dry.......
Well done fella, definitely found a niche in this form of the game and then some.

Underway and BCs are 66/1.
Still 50 overs in the brackets so looks like we haven't lost any time according to cricinfo ?
No, reduced to 42 overs.
Righto. Handy start so far.
