discussion about all of his best films

bro, an almost unmatched set of credits. ranking them is almost impossible.

    Commando
    Predator
    Conan the Barbarian
    True Lies
    T2
    T1
    Red Heat
    Raw Deal
    fuck, Total Recall!
    The Running Man

Twins and Junior and Kindergarten Cop...

To further add to the Arnie circle jerk…..

I can’t believe people mention Sly as a serious rival.

Arnie has an X factor SS could only dream of

    It’s not even close.

Would add Conan the Destroyer and take out Junior.

Last Action Hero is fun but probably doesn’t make the shortlist .

Very hard to actually rank them though

Not to mention Jean Claude, or Dolph. And don't even get me started with the new breed like Vin Diesel, who aren't fit to lace Arnie's combat boots

The original Conan is a classic, all that moody steroid-enhanced existential brooding. And the face behind Darth Vader's voice. And a snake to make lair of the white worm look like a common garden adder.

Sly has been in some tremendous movies and deserves his place on the Mt Rushmore of Action

    Rocky I, II. III, IV
    Paradise Alley
    First Blood
    Tango & Cash
    Cliffhanger
    Judge Dredd
    Cop Land
    Get Carter
    Creed
    Tulsa King

Yep, no need to throw shade at Sly to raise Arnie up.

You didn't eveh include Escape to Victory where he held his own acting with pro soccer players. 😉

    Yeah, thats a good one,.

I think he had a better mid career than Arnie in that some of his 90s films were decent and some fun and he made a classic, and was great in it, in Copland.

I also loved Cobra and Over the Top as a kid.

But then again JCVD movies were great in the 80s early 90s too. Fuck even Seagal's early stuff was great action for the time.

Seagal movies were great, watching Under Siege with Erika Eleniak is a memory that stands out from when I was young.

Really? No love for Rambo or Rocky?

Edit: ah I see there is some above.

The 80s and 90s were fertile ground for action stars. Arnie and Sly, Bruce Willis, Van Damme, Lundgren, Norris. All at a time when people didn't spend hours on social media unpicking plot lines and stuff. We just enjoyed the films. What a time to grow up

Fine movies but to me not a patch on Arnie at his best.

I loved Demolition Man cos it was just great fun satire. Wesley Snipes was awesome but then so was Sly as foil to him.

I've never seen Cop Land but have heard good things, could definitely argue Sly is a better actor than Arnie based on that.

If you count Bruce Willis then you'd have to throw Harrison Ford in as well. SW, IJ and Blade Runner......

Despite all the memes I haven't seen a lot of Chucks movies but they certainly have a bit of a B Grade feel compared to others.

JCVD and Lundgren never really captivated me despite being athletic freaks. The latter was obviously hugely memorable in Rocky to be fair.

Stephen Seagal is an unpleasant ass who had overly choreographed fight scenes designed to make him look amazing. I'm not sure I've ever seen him take a single punch to the face. Of every guy in this list he is also the only one who completely lacks any sort of self deprecating humour.

.....Clint and to an extent Charles Bronson and Jack Palance created the formula in the 70s that the 80s then ran with.

IMHO Under Siege is easily the best of all those one man army taking out hordes of bad guys who take over a ship/plane/building films. It was sadly all downhill from there for Weird Steve.

One thing I'll give Arnie and Sly is that they actually did become better actors. They weren't just muscles and mindless action after a while. I actually think Peak Arnie is Twins. Just incredible charisma and presence.

    Terminator - he was perfect.

Copland is good in that kind of wow he can put on weight and play characters! sort of way...

But I really liked Sly in that old film pre Rocky where his onscreen brother was the boxer - can't remember name.

I'm going to take back my Terminator comment, how could a super swaggering heavily muscled thick Austrian accented expressionless lug of a man fit in with the scurrying human survivors?
