20 more runs may have been enough. Sigh!

Or we didn’t bring on the slower bowlers soon enough.

We really needed one more accurate spin bowler, not sure Sodhi would have been the right guy but he definitely would have had more to offer than Smith.

Looking at the scorecard, the suggestion prior to the final to play an extra batsmen (e.g., Chapman) instead of Smith seems to have been a good one.

Atleast the Lions have turned things around recently. But I get what you're saying.

Mitchell will be kicking himself for not hitting the accelerator a few overs earlier.

Glenn Phillips stunning catch. Adds to his highlight reel.

He is wonderful at doing that. What a cricketer.

( conveniently forgets that he sometimes drops sitters too )

Sorry @NTA, the boys tried their best.

I think the 1980s batting in the middle cost us in the end ( cheers @voodoo 😉 )

Lathams strike rate doesn't belong in modern test cricket let alone ODIs. 40 valuable balls squandered.

Nathan Smith ended up being a complete waste too unfortunately. Massive step down from Henry who would have made a huge difference.

Excellent match from Michael Bracewell though. Superb all round effort.

Philips is becoming almost as valuable as Chris Harris.

Too many big hits and the bowling isn't dibbly dobbly enough.

    There is only one Harry.

I haven't rated him, but that was some match from him (looking at the scorecard). Wow.

He never quite made it as a test cricketer. But his ODI stats especially are top draw. Averaging nearly 40 with the bat, striking at 115. 32 with the ball. Statistically probably one of the best ODI all-rounders in the world.

    T20, pretty consistent too.

No real game plan to the spinners we lost wkts playing across the line far too often, we should have played in the V to those straight deliveries forced their spinners to go off their game plan.
Very smart bowling from the Indian spinners shut us down and gave us few scoring option varied their pace really well.

There is no bigger myth than Latham being our best player of spin. I'm not even sure he is top two.

The Henry injury and India's home ground advantage proved obstacles just too big to overcome in the end.

I go against the grain a bit and say that Mitchell and Phillips did exactly what we needed them to, or we were in danger of losing the game in the first 20 overs. Problem was they didn't up the rate soon enough; once we got to the 40 over mark at 175 odd we should have put the foot down and aimed for 10 per over from there, 275+ would have been a very challenging score. Unfortunately Phillips got out at a very bad time just as he was about to do that, and I guess we have to give credit to the Indian spinners who were nearly impossible to hit to the fence on a slow pitch. Once their pace men came back on we got going.

That was a really good campaign overall though, including the warm up series. Lots of different players contributing to get us to the final, we still have stacks of talent in this team, far more than we have had historically.

Not to moan too much but it was a shame we had to play the final in Dubai against a team that had played every game there, given we had acclimatised as much as we could to Pakistan conditions and were playing well there. That does put an asterisk next to this W for India who had a distinct advantage over every other team.

In hindsight the selection of 3 seamers was folly. Should have tried not to compound the mistake and just bowled all of our slow bowling part timers instead
